I did a refinish on my trx 250r pipe, maybe it will be usefully to some people maybe not. When I got my trx the pipe was painted black with some heat paint. Didn't look bad but with anything painted I had to be carefull pressure washing it and also the heat would bake muddy watermarks on it and would be very hard to get rid off. So I used some aircraft paint stripper and took all the paint off with little help from the pressure washer. I finished the expansion pipe extension piece first to see how it turned out before doing the rest of the pipe. I couldn't get rid of the little pitting on it but it turned out decent so I did the rest of the pipe.
After I got the paint stripped I wet sanded by hand with 220 grit all over, working more on rust and tarnished spots. After it all evened out and I started not seeing any better results I went to 320 grit and pretty much did everything the same. After that I hit everything with a steel wool used for scrubbing pans, they are soap filled and not too abrasive. I than used my meguiars wheel buffing tool and some metal polish on it. I just rubbed the polish on by hand than buffed it off. I used a rachet strap to hold it down so I could apply some good pressure on it. For like 2 hours of work it turned out okay, I'm sure with more time it could only get better.
Some pictures of the finished extension piece compared to the un touched pipe. A picture of the pipe before it was touched. Also some pics of everything after I finished
