From what I can tell, these starters just slip in? And have an o-ring? Well, putting some large channel locks on the starter and trying to twist it out of there, does nothing. Twisted as hard as I could, to the point the starter housing was turning one half, and the other half wasn't. Tried heat, still nothing. Any idea what I can do?

Put the case Cover in a vise and get a wooden dowel and a hammer and just tap it out. Don't forget lube

I've smacked the end of the starter gear side, with a hammer so hard, I was afraid I was going to break the case, didn't budge.

I'm guessing that it's stuck do to paint, and being your limited to heat on that starter, I'd go the opposite direction.
First, I'd opt to heat everything up with a heat gun. Not re dhot, just hot enough that it's to painful to touch after a few seconds. Afterwards, I'd hit the stater gear with some of this: https://www.zoro.com/crc-freeze-spray-trigger-aerosol-10-oz-14086/i/G1257313/?gclid=Cj0KEQjwo5--BRCS8ceLjv-XppUBEiQAGp15EEc3Yh2DGhGSgWE80_cw6w3XlOCzl5corHbzJ RdyxoEaAtI98P8HAQ&gclsrc=aw.ds. The temperature differential may help. While it's being shocked by the temperature change of the freeze spray, use that wooden dowel and hammer.
Have you tried a press?

Finally got it out. Wedged a 2' wrench in between the bracket bolt holes, with bolts in them, and cranking on it back and forth after a day of PB Buster, got it free.
