Need new ones since getting my right crankcase cover powdered. Not seeing them on the Service Honda site where I usually order from.

Did you happen to check the 1986 schematics?

I am finding it everywhere i look.

Without comparing the '85/'86 schematics side by side, they appear to be the same. Where are you seeing them? Part numbers?

#18 right?

I believe that's the bearing for the kicker, no?

I also notice that it's listed as only requiring one bearing, where the clutch shaft requires two. I don't see anything that even points to the back side of the cover.

I am completely confused and not sure what part you need.

Can you take a screen shot pic of the part you are looking for in the service manual?

I am no expert. Just trying to help.

There are two needle bearings that mount in the backside of the cover, at the top and bottom of the shaft where I've indicated with arrows.

I don't see them in the schematic, but I've been known to miss the obvious from time to time.

Are you positive that shaft contains bearings? I have looked at a few different schematics and an old parts fiche and I can't find them anywhere.

Yes, sir. And they are a "female canine" to get out.

What I am wondering is if they are the same size that go in the 1985 ATC 250R. There is a top and bottom one for that year along with the 86 ATC and all years TRX through 89.

Look at number 12 and 17.

Do you have a Micrometer so you can see if the size of those bearings match up to the ones on the parts fiche?

And FYI, to get mine out of the 85 ATC 250R I bought an OTC Blind Hole Puller Collet Model 33856 5/16" and 33857 3/8" and collet holder 28250

I have an old hand me down Harbor Freight micrometer that I don't trust, but I'll see if it's in the ballpark. Good idea!

I have spent quite a bit of time on this investigation as well....

Totally coming up baffled and empty handed.

The service manual schematics show it, but the parts catalogs do not.

Very interesting indeed

The top bearing appears to have an OD of 11mm and the shaft measures 8mm. Couldn't get a length... Thanks for the effort Arlaunch.

You may need to pull them out and call a bearing company. I am sure someone has those.

...and the fun part is...

I already pulled and junked them, thinking I could simply order new ones.

Any other ideas? I thought about calling Service Honda, but I'm guessing they'd just say that they don't carry them...

Ok, here is how it usually works . If it has bearings and they are factory and are not shown on the parts fiche which they definitely are not, they are NOT sold separately, therefore, you must buy the cover to get the OEM ones . The reason I know this is because I was not only a parts manager at 2 different Honda motorcycle shops in the 70's, I also worked for Kawasaki motors.

Also, the id of the seal size is 12mm . This typically means that if the od of the shaft the seal goes on is the same size (in this case it is your clutch actuator arm) from top to bottom, the id of the bearing is actually 12mm, not 11 . This means that if you calipers are measuring this dimension inaccurately, it is also measuring all dimensions inaccurately.

As mentioned, once you get the correct measurement, you can likely get one from a bearing supply store . If you can't find the exact length, one that is a few mm shorter will also work fine . A slightly longer one will also work if you have clearance for the additional length.

I've got a few bearing supply places near me, I wonder if I just took the cover and the shaft in with me if they could figure out what I need...

Never know until you try but I know that some of them in my area could figure it out and some others don't have the ability to and only sell what people ask for.

I replaced the top one, but the bottom one is not EZ to remove. typically unless your getting grinding, you leave them alone as all they do is help guide the shifter lever. some people replace them with a custom bushing. I have done this on many motors of many different types. the really important thing is the seal at the top. make sure you replace that seal.
the bearings, you can get the top one out and get the #s off and order them from online.

Already trashed 'em, thinking I could just order them from Service Honda (whoops!). Didn't want to leave them, though I agree that they probably wouldn't have been abused, because of the sandblasting part of the powder coating process. Had I known...

Ding ding ding!!

We have a winner! Today I installed two bearings, part #HK1210 and they work! Threw them in the freezer for a bit, then drove 'em home!

Where did your find the part number at?

Trial and error at two different parts houses until I found a match.
