There are many problems associated with this. What one person sees as a problem, another may not. If a Mod takes the side of one, who's to say that they aren't being biased? Just saying, sort of playing the Devil's advocate.

It's really a lose lose situation in that position since you will never please everyone. Someone is always going to trailprotrailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro about something regardless of the situation because that's what they do. I'd never want a position like that because it's like babysitting. No fun in it, just more headaches. Plus, the lack of respect associated with it, the egos to deal with, and the amount of time it takes to deal with all of this and for what? Nothing but a thankless, volunteer position. I'm sure that there are a great majority of those on here who appreciate what the position holds, stands for, and does but it's the small number of those who don't that spoil it for the rest.

The tapatalk app doesn't have the thumbs down option. I'm not sure how many members made the switch OFFICIALLY to the app (they give you a number but it's inaccurate) but I'm guessing there are quite a few. So your efforts may go unnoticed to many....

I started wrenching in 1974 when I was 14, (yup, I'm one of those old guys) my father (one of those "old guys" a lot of wet behind the ears pups like to complain about) taught me how to do stuff the way they had been doing it for 30 years before I started wrenching. My old man worked on Model A and T Fords and Harleys from 30's and 40's, and would do tune ups and repairs for friends on the side when I was a kid and I learned by helping him and listening to what he told me because, well, he knew wtf he was doing as evidenced by him doing repairs once and doing it right the first time. Pretty difficult concept to grasp for some I know.

Now I can repair everything from power hand tools to weed whips, chain saws to ATVs, motorcycles, vehicles and everything in between. Just last week I diagnosed the problem that was causing our furnace not to heat (diagnostics took me about 1/2 hour), ordered the part, installed the part and had the furnace running and heating in a little over a 1/2 hour and that included tidying up the birds nest of wires with some zip ties after installing the new circuit board.

The circuit board would have cost me about 130.00 if I would have bought it from the appliance parts store. I found one brand new in the box for 65.00 online and it was here in 3 days. I'm willing to bet that if we had called out the heating company it would have cost us in the vicinity of 300.00.

The advice experienced members give here is free. All anyone has to do is invest the time and patience to develop the skills to do these repairs.

The worst part about it is DOHC is an extremely smart individual, whether you like him or not that cannot be refuted. The world and this forum can use all of the intelligent people it can get as the "dumbing down" of our population is in full swing. People with a brain are an absolute commodity these days and again, like him or not, DOHC shared a lot on this forum.

If I remember correctly, the first thread I ever saw from DOhC was about him riding a custom trike across the State on public roads. Pretty flipping' epic! I'm not weighing in on his ban, just sayin' it would have been cool to see more productive stuff actually involving trikes and less pointless arguing. That being said, anybody doing any riding in the beautiful fall weather? I took my 1 yr old out around the property for her first 3 wheeler ride today and she loved it:) Also proud of my 3 yr old son for completing about a 6 mile loop including the green trail at the Cove last weekend…the bad part is that my legs are still sore from running behind him the whole way with the tether;)

I've never had any problems with dohc, barnett...anyone. I would whole heartedly agree.....it's much more tranquil now but I still feel he should be unbanned. I just despise banning.....even on other sites where things are said that are over the top.....I always thought we could self moderate.

To be honest....I was really second guessing it when I was typing last night but a few beers is never a solid recipe for good sense.

Spoke to dohc and understood his point of view. I felt bad and deleted the first post of my life (if memory serves).

There are many posts I wish I could delete but just hate doing that and feel I should live with even the bad posts. But I do not want to hurt anyone else so...hence the delete.

Some people just always will get and F for " does not get along with others" . No other forum that I have been to, wheter it be hunting, cars, archery forums, EVER would put up with a member having to be banned 5 times. There is no excuse for it. Call it eccentricities, abrasive, or whatever spin you want to put on it, the guy treated a lot of people like trailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro, plain and simple.

Besides, if any of you think he is gone, I guarantee you he either has other names and operates under PMs, or will be back in some other form.

About 3 years ago many forums started to see a inidation of "profesional trolls" if you will. They are tactful, they operate under the radar at the start, using PMs to undermind the well being of the forum, that usually starts with a underground upheaval against certain members or forum workers. Then they go public with a small army of "kids" that do not know they ar being misled and blinded by bullshit.

The difference between this forum and others, is bigger forums with over 300K members, instituted a army of moderators that nip trailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro it in the rear at its infancy. The forums that operate with such strictness, and efficiency enjoy 37 pages of new posts daily as a result and member logins in the 1000s daily. At my last knowledge this forum had over 20k active members and 9k facebook followers, but yet active member posting is less than 1% of those numbers on a daily basis.
That is not number that other forums see. Most forums see at least 20 to 40 % of the member list posting in a regular fashion. So that is something that should be examined and maybe find ways to promote more positive talk. I pointed that out 2 years ago, and the numbers were removed from public view, instead of my statements being examined and studied.

If any of you miss people that act like that, you sure are easy to please, enjoy being talked down to and treated like trailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro, or have a low bar of standards.
I am not gonna question his intelligence or " accomplishments" but I have seen far more people do far more for this website and sport, that do not get a tenth of the recoginition.

We've got almost 30 years of good memories back here and yesterday didn't disappoint. Just watching him get his 4-wheeler stuck a couple times. One time he said "go ahead and throw me a rope" as all I could do was laugh. The challenges were the rewards maybe goes with this thread.

The moderators are in a No win situation here. If ban a user we get chastised, if we don't we get chastised. One thing most of the moderators ( and previous moderators ) know that no matter what action is or isn't taken someone will get upset.
This is why you don't see me post much anymore.

My advise to all users: If you don't like another user then click on their profile and add then to your ignore list. Then you don't have to see what they post.

I am not going to try and get into Damon's head, but smart or not he had an abrasiveness about him that equated to 40 grit personality.

It's one thing to be smart and another thing to put it to use. Using one's intelligence for the purpose of trying to belittle the knowledge, or understanding of others is not the key to a successful life.

Challenging the authority of a moderator on a privately owned website and goading them on to ban you isn't something that screams of intelligence.

Lifetime ban. I spoke with other moderators about Damon and this final ban was his 5th. He learned nothing from the 4 previous bans. I had high hopes when he came back approximately 6 or so months ago. If I remember correctly, ak47, Damon, Barnett and maybe another got banned? Can't remember exactly. When Damon came back he was awesome. We were working on several newbie posts together, he was 100% different when he got back. That lastsed until late spring early summer and there were little things in multiple posts that kinda made me think he was reverting. Little by little it got worse and IMO culiminated with that post about the dyno where the new member and an old member hung it up. That was really it for me. No doubt, he's highly intelligent, but there are lots of highly intelligent guys on here that aren't condescending or drive off people in droves. i don't believe that's healthy for this site, again, IMO.

I made the call, plain and simple. It's never an easy thing to do and as I have said now at least 2 other times in this thread it was endused by behavior over time. If the others I spoke to want to talk that's their call.

My last ban was for 6 months and the laughable excuse they gave me was "For starting too many arguments" which was 180 degrees wrong . One long time member was trying to start an argument with me on a build thread as he often did so I implied he was "Chubby" after he posted a photo of himself bottoming the suspension out off a small jump, and the usual crew was trying to start an argument with me on a thread about webbing for a foot peg safety net.

These threads are still on the site for everyone to see.

I don't recall one forum ever operating that way. And if they did, I can't imagine they lasted very long. If this forum ran that way, you goons would have all the staff here banned. Including the owner.

Stop harassing the staff for doing their JOB. They shouldn't get this much retaliation for banning someone who ASKED for it. I wouldn't put up with it. I applaud Yeager for even putting up with AK47. We have other options as well.
I posted before about using the "ignore user" option. Poof any post they made or will make is hidden from you. Then you won't get caught up in the drama and risk getting in trouble.

I have used the option and put some members on everybody's ignore list. Problem solved itself VERY quick.

We have other options as well.
I posted before about using the "ignore user" option. Poof any post they made or will make is hidden from you. Then you won't get caught up in the drama and risk getting in trouble.

I have used the option and put some members on everybody's ignore list. Problem solved itself VERY quick.

So report your issues to the moderators and let them handle it. If they aren't doing their job report it to the administrators. Maybe the staff needs to start enforcing themselves more. There are ways to handle it without banning people. You can stop people from posting for 24 hours, 1 week, etc. I've owned my own forums, I've helped run forums, i know how it works. If they need more help maybe it's time we elect more active members. I keep seeing more and more posts about members and staff taking hiatus'. So let's fix it guys.

But to answer your question, no I haven't seen the threads. I'm just going by what I seen in this and the Milner thread. If I conducted myself out of line, I apologize. But I think some things needed to be said, trolling aside. But it's not to late to correct yourself and "self moderate" like I keep seeing people say lately.

OK, I have been sitting here on the sidelines, keeping quiet. But I guess I'll stick my toe in the water here a little bit...

First: There are people on both sides of this "debate" that I count as friends. I truly do not have a dog in this fight. But I do have an opinion on the subject of Damon, AKA: DOHCbikes.

I totally agree, the man is smart as a whip, and a VERY passionate debater. I respect him for that. However, while I never had any major issues with him, I did notice that he is a very two-sided coin in terms of his personality, or at least the way he conveyed it here. Sometimes he just seemed to come across in a very abrasive way. I just chalked it up to the fact the the typed word can be taken in many more ways than the word spoken. On the other hand, I saw him participating an a VERY positive way here... Fabs mentioned his spurring us older members to swing into the new member section more often to help out. I was one who was guilty of neglecting the new members and his thread on that subject was a kick in my posterior to help out, and since then I have made more effort to do so. I too was among those who were optimistic about the "new" Damon when he returned after is last banishment. And I too noticed that as some time went on, he seemed to gravitate to drama wherever it popped up here. I'm not judging him as wrong for being concerned for fellow members in the Milner debacle, I am saying he could have conveyed his concern and willingness to help in a much more positive and less confrontational way. It would have been worlds better IMHO.

Now having said that and as I watched the Milner thread from the sidelines, hoping for the best possible outcome for all involved, I can see where his behavior got out of line pretty quickly. Yaegerb and I have chatted on here alot over the time I have been here, and he has never provoked any ill feeling with me. I think he is a good choice as a new mod here, and while his first comment drawing attention to that fact could easily have been received as confrontational and/or threatening, Damon's actions could be responded to with nothing short of a ban IMHO. It all just seemed very tacky to me to besmirch the staff here out in the open, and seemed to be done simply for dramatic effect. These things IMHO should have been discussed and handled privately, and I think if that route was chosen the outcome would have been better for all concerned. I realize it is entirely possible that route may have been tried, who am I to say... I just assume that it wasn't.

Ghostv has it right... opt not to comment on touchy issues when they don't concern you... It has worked very well for me. The old saying Mom taught us about doing unto others still applies today, maybe more than ever.

I was involved in some of this. A good friend of mine was just posting about his success he had with his 350x. Then the thread took, what I would consider, a negative turn. Then I made a comment about it and what I thought about the tone of the site as being negative. Then Fabiodiven decided it would be funny to post a meme and say we shouldn't be on this forum if we can't handle the way they are. And then something about me doing something to Mikey. Instead of getting into a grade school name fight with bullies, I decided I would just bail out.

I did not contact any mods or admins because it has been this way for a while with a couple people (two in particular) starting stuff then a few others joining in, so I figure if I didn't like it, I would take ball and go somewhere else. I get notifications through tapatalk so it was hard not to read some of it.

I am not thin skinned nor am I in 5th grade either. I did notice that when Brendon became a mod, things really calmed down. And I did notice some of the old members that used to contribute, back again, and in a positive way. And In my opinion, all this came down to two people and and a few followers.

The Damon affair is an example of what happens when lines are crossed I think.

I agree with you but with all due respect, I don't think this particular case can be pigeon-holed as banning someone for what they say. It's not quite that simple really, it's more about repeatedly breaking the rules set forth here that we all agree to when we become members, and more importantly, the public calling out and besmirching of the staff here. The house rules are the house rules, we are guests here. He was warned, and he reacted by amping up the rhetoric, challenging the staff, and daring them to ban him, instead of stepping back and toning it down.

I'm certainly on board with the staff doing what they can with people who have bad dealings with other members...

Steve I had wondered why you reacted the way you had to this comment. I never realized until now that you thought I was talking about you. I never thought about the correlation of your name, Steve. You are not the Steve I was referring to. I was referring to Dirtcrasher, whose name is also Steve. Steve and I used to be really close, close enough that we would bust balls quite often. DC was undoubtedly brown nosing to his new buddy Mickey to the point I found it disturbing, putting aside reality to play along with an egotistical little game. I don't know you "the Steve man" and my comment was certainly never directed at you.

Steve I had wondered why you reacted the way you had to this comment. I never realized until now that you thought I was talking about you. I never thought about the correlation of your name, Steve. You are not the Steve I was referring to. I was referring to Dirtcrasher, whose name is also Steve. Steve and I used to be really close, close enough that we would bust balls quite often. DC was undoubtedly brown nosing to his new buddy Mickey to the point I found it disturbing, putting aside reality to play along with an egotistical little game. You can go to church all you want, 7 days a week if you want and you won't understand what is being said or understand if fully until you humble your self and ask Jesus to forgive you of your sins, as Him to come into you and save you.
