Here's a you tube link to a trick Josh Ball just showed me today. Give it a try and see if it helps.

Now my question is... Where can I get one if those screws!?

Ive used this little trick for years. I keep the screw with my feeler gauge, 14mm wrench, bent 10mm wrench, and stubby screwdriver. I call it my valve adjust kit. Got the idle up there pretty good dont ya?? LoL Id adjust the chain like in vid(the adjuster can stick sometimes, just work it up n down a lil) just dont get it too tight. Next id put the engine at tdc on comp stroke and adjust valves .03 thosanthants if im not mistaken. I got my bolt at local hardware store 3mm x.5mm thread, but fastenall should have em

How long does he screw need to be? I'm having difficulty finding one that is more than 2 inches.

Also is it an M3.5 screw? Or a M3 .5pitch screw? Are they both the same?

Meh, I'm still having trouble finding a long screw! Found one (https://www.boltdepot.com/Metric_machine_screws_Phillips_pan_head_Zinc_plate d_class_4.8_steel_3mm_x_0.5mm.aspx) so far

Are you sure 60mm length will be sufficient?

what are you trying to do? if adjusting the chain then remove the 10mm bolt in the adjuster nut. loosen the adjuster nut while the engine is running. take an "awe" or some other type of thin metal device that you can fit through the hole and push down a few times gently to get the tensioner to loosen up. it should auto re-set then tighten nut back down and reinstall bolt. done. if it still has issues, you may have a bad bearing or bad rod pin.

I actually ordered a couple yesterday from boltdepot.com (https://www.boltdepot.com/Product-Details.aspx?product=17879). The shipping charges were lower and it looks like it's already out for delivery today! :naughty:

Lets just hope I am able to pull this off and the timing chain isn't maxed out!!!

I was able to tighten the chain a bit (I think) but there is a knocking noise now it seems....

Please have a listen to my video and tell me what ya think. The noise seems to get even louder after I rev it up...

Oh ya, I also lowered the idle a bit.

Yeah, wayyyy to much noise and your idle is way to high.

Any ideas on what it is?

Hard to say, but I am leaning towards either the small or big end of crank. That's a loud thud. It wouldn't be so pronounced if it were valves or timing chain. But I've been wrong many times before.

Have you adjusted the valves yet?

No I havent. I guess I will have to do that.

I found a youtube link... Doesnt seem too difficult. https://youtu.be/IHeIXalJ9N8

Hopefully it comes apart without a struggle...

I'm praying the noise is related to something easy.

I think it might be time to dig into the top end......It could be a combination of upper or lower end rod bearings accompanied by piston slap.....All indicators of wear and tear. Some guys use a stethoscope to pinpoint the noise. I've also used a pry bar or a long screwdriver place on the motor while having the opposite end touching your ear.....This method is cheapest if you go the Mc gyver route to isolate the noise.
