New lighting coil ?

Hey anybody ever replace their lighting coil with say an after market or some other compatible lighting coil
Just wondering about it I've heard an old wise man tell me the ones on some of the tri Motos are no good :shiftyeyes:

In the 80s, we sent stock lighting coils out to be rewound so they could drive real lights.

Ricky Stator in Ramona CA used to do them. I bet they still do if you call and ask. I'm sure others do, also.

I've replaced a couple of lighting coils with new stock equivalent from Ricky Stator as well. Nothing cosmic - a couple of bolts and some solder.

Nothing custom other than the rewinds.

I've rewound my own.

Years back I was able to retrofit a yt175 source coil onto s tecate. I bet s tecate lighting coil will fit the yt175. Might need to slot the bolt holes on the Yt ever so slightly.

One of these days I'll get back to my Yt and build up the ignition and build a full fledged charging system on it.
