View Full Version : 1986 250es won't shift, but clicks, stuck in reverse?

I just picked up a beat 1986 250es parts bike that I'm trying to get going.

The shifter will click and return, but you can go up or down infinite number of times, it doesn't change anything. First thought the lever was spinning on the splines, it wasn't. I replaced the shift ahaft from a parts motor and inspected the stopper pin, but both seem fine.

Yes I searched on here, but most of those issues were the stopper pin being broken or the shaft/pieces on it.

It also seems stuck in reverse, as in I can easily spin the rear end backwards but forwards it sounds like its turning the motor over. Reverse cable is cut but still attached to motor, I moved the lever and still no luck.

Does this sound like a shift fork/other work involving splitting the case, or possibly something on the clutch/reverse lever side of the motor?

Thanks

Sounds like maybe the main clutch is bad , pull the right side cover and inspect .

That would be a huge relief. I'm hoping to run a TRX 350 clutch cover to run an oil cooler and maybe a modified TRX 450 wet clutch
