Last fall I pulled the 200x out of the shed after it had sat for about 2 years. I put fresh oil in it and went for a ride and it siezed the cam. It was honda oil and at the proper level. Any ideas as to why this happened? I have a new head and cam but want to make sure this doesn't happen again. Thanks https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170126/909bdfab725908ceefa18c440c202aaf.jpg

could be multiple things. I would first pop the case cover and disassemble/clean the oil rotor. Its either that or you may have junk in the passages blocking oil travel.

Ok will check it out! I just thought it was wierd that somehow something must have blocked it from sitting for so long

It doesn't help that the cam bearing journal is designed poorly on the 200x. It's hard to find a decent head that's not all wore out after 30 years.

Well it's back together. I checked the oil ports and oil pump and nothing really obvious stuck out. Started it for a minute then looked through the valve cover and there was some oil in there. I hope it's ok!

Start it up and take the exhaust valve cap off. Shine a really bright light in there and see if you can see oil "misting". It will be very evident if oil is pumping to the head or not.

Had the same problem with one of my 200x's the PO let the foil from the top of an oil quart fall into the engine . It blocked the oil passage in the oil pump and the head detonated. Only reason i found it was i had to split the tranny to remove all the pieces of the piston from the tranny. Look for metal in the oil screen usually small pieces of the cams end up there. Good Luck

Well it was spraying oil around when I took the valve cap off. I found an old piece of gasket in an oil passage area so I'm thinking that was it. Thanks for the help guys!!! I actually sold the bike to a friend's brother to help pay for a 400ex for the wife. Told him that if he had any issues I would make it right but I'm pretty confident that it's good.
