1985 Honda 125M. I am only going by what was told to me by owner.
The motor starts with carb cleaner then it wont run. Most likely carb is fouled up.
What concerned me is he said " It goes into first gear ok but then when you shift into second
it lunges forward. I did not ask him if it pops out of gear under load but the only way to tell
if tranny is good is if the bike can run.
How would you go about this ? Maybe its just a simple clutch adjustment ? Or are we talking
shifter forks and drums ?
HMU with your feedback on this one. Thanks

I would put money on it being nothing more than a clutch adjustment issue, but you'll have to get it running first to confirm. Time to clean a carburetor!

The drum stopper is probably broke off making it so it can't hold its position in gear .
Very common problem with that motor. Not an easy fix .

very common indeed when we tore into our 85 125m not only did we find the drum stopper almost broken but we found the tip of another drum stop in the bottom of the case.

Well there has to be a good reason why he is selling..... maybe that's the reason. A minor adjustment may be true too
but I find it too convenient of a problem for the carb not to be working. I bet it pops out of all gears on load. He said he gave the bike to his teenage son to ride. All I was thinking when he said that was slamming the bike into gear without letting off the throttle.

Shift drum stopper most likely, if your lucky its just the stopper itself thats broken off and not the boss on the casting that it bolts to. If its just the stopper broken off thats an easy fix, i've done a half dozen of them now, i can replace one and put back together in less than an hour now after getting the right tools for the job, mainly the clutch nut socket. I would get it if its cheap enough, but bargain him down a ways since your going to be putting money in it right away, minimum i bet your going to need is a carb kit, side cover gasket, shift drum stopper, and probably the socket for the clutch nut if you don't have one. And make sure the dang shifter wasn't welded on by some maniac, otherwise teardown gets even more fun.
