Probably, but I’m a steel guy and we’re in an area that seems to harbor some nasty wood eating fungus. Some supposedly treated posts turn to dust in less than ten years. Even a few of the tar drenched rail ties in the area that made up most of the original corner posts are rotted out.

So the cure in my simple mind was 4” sq 1/8” wall painted steel tube sunk 3’ deep in concrete. I don’t want anyone saying I did a halfassed job 50 years from now.

It’s just to keep live stock (and yes, chupacabras) out. I was hoping the tight spacing at the bottom would keep my dog in, but after about 10 minutes he found a spot that he was able to squeeze through.

Dam, bought a z grill. Was going to get an egg, but I'm so busy all the time I didn't want to mess with it. I've logged some hours on an egg, guy I use to work for had every grill known and I was always cooking stuff for the guys, then he discovered my fish frying skills and took me off the grill and onto the fryer. Guy use to pay me to go catch walleye and perch so we had fish for work cookouts and his own personal parties.

Helicoiled some recoil threads. Y'all know, one bolt missing and hole stripped, one still OE with good threads in the case, one with a JIS screw, and another with a course metric bolt hamfisted in. No SAE bolts or lag screws though. :w00t:

It was time to replace the rope, and I had the right size Helicoil kit already. I even said, screw it, and put the tap in the drill. Wasn't fussing with doing it by hand, had other crap to do. 10 minute job and doesn't look goobered up anymore or require five different tools to remove the recoil starter.

Based on the variety of hardware i’m thinking YTM starter.

Mine was held on by 1/4” Stove Bolts that I personally installed in the 80’s before I became aware that you didn’t need to fly to Japan for Metric fasteners.

Came into a couple free barn finds
Old economy tractor w plow and a 1974 arctic cat panther 440 vip (cat-a-matic)

Tractor runs, snowmobile has about 300 original miles on it. Both sat in a storage container for the last 40 years. only thing broken on it was the windshield as it looked like something had fallen on it in the container so I removed it. I will have to source another one. I oiled the cylinders prior to turning over. it looked like the motor had been fogged based on the oil in the cylinders already so that was good news. It pulls over easily. Next to work on the fuel system. Someone a unique machine based on the automatic transmission etc. Should be fun for around the cabin. I’m not looking for extreme performance anyway.

I’m not sure if anybody has any additional information on this machine? It seems like it was only made for one year.
There is a bit on the web. Looks like some collect due to rarity.

My recollection as a kid was that arctic cat was luxury machine compared to most of the other zillion brands out there in the 70’s. Even Massey Ferguson made a sled back then And it looked like a tractor.

Any idea who made the engine in your sled? I think Suzuki was building them for Cat for a while, but I don’t know what year it started or if it’s still the case.

Because cat is still around that makes your find even cooler. I’m guessing 95% of the names from that era are no longer in business

My 1977 John Deere had a Kawi engine and others as well.

Changing the topic slightly, the next-door neighbor had a sled that was basically a piece of thick plywood with an engine on it and a cloth track with metal cleats going across it. It had two skis up front and a set of handlebars, but no steering. I have no idea if it was commercially manufactured or homemade, but you basically pointed it in the direction you wanted to go and drove it until you need to stop, pick the back and up and make a correction. It's not often that we get that much rain, without any lightening. It's much easier to wash in the rain than 100f weather and trying to keep the soap from drying and making spots. It saves water too.

No, get yer heads out of the gutter. It's a motorcycle rally for women riders to get together and show the presence of female riders and that they can also rack some pipes off. Dang, that didn't sound good either. For sure, it was impressive and inspirational.

They made their way down to the Texarkana courthouse, which is on the Texas, Arkansas state line. I got me a seat right there and watched them all roll by, crossing from the Texas side, to Arkansas.

All kinds of bikes and trikes. Also, all kinds of women, from all over the country. Maybe some from outside the US.

I rode my XL600R out there. The battery, regulator/rectifier is on the fritz again. A few miles past home, the charging voltage jumped from 14.7 to 15.6. I'm sick of it. I've removed the entire harness and made repairs, replaced the stator, reg/rec, and battery. I'm fairly confident the Bike Master batteries are junk, and that's wiping everything else out.

The XL600R has three electrical circuits. The CDI is powered straight from the stator, the headlight is AC powered from the stator (only works when the engine is running), and the taillight, turn signals, instrument lights work on 12v DC. Really, a mess, and not a reliable system. The entire time I've owned this bike, all the major issues have been electrical. It's even failed on me at a stoplight, which I was lucky enough to be two miles to home and able to push it there on the sidewalk. The ignition part of the stator had failed.

I've even been riding it for the past couple months without a headlight, because that portion of the system failed and I had to ride it home in the dark.

P2SFIXER, build some new XL600R wire harnesses! :)

Neighbor dropped this in my garage in pieces a month back.

I had a job testing electric chainsaws. We'd go to a location, drag the generator around, cut some trees down, set the short sections up on some cradles and cut slices all day.

After so many hours, the saws were disassembled (not by us) and inspected/electrically test. Sometimes we'd get short logs to cut on at the factory, but not often. I worked on the assembly line before that job. I was a teenager then. There was a program that let high school kids work on the electric side of the factory. I also had a job at a plastic molding factory, where I ran the injection molding machines to make plastic parts, including the housings for electric chainsaws.

Later on, I was a gas saw tester, which was just running and setting the carbs on new saws off the assembly line, which I also worked on before that.

I've got some electric saws still around here. One is the Euro version for 220 volts, which I've never used.

A friend with a DR650 asked me to look at, to find a ringing noise. He said it sounded like a washer rattling around when he rode over bumps or a rough road.

Turns out, it actually was a washer. There's supposed to be a bump stop, one of those rubber type bumpers, on the shock shaft that softens the blow if bottoming out. It was gone, adios, dasvidaniya.

That's what got me to looking at that area. I looked, and there seemed to be a washer laying in the bottom of the spring cup. I put a pencil magnet through the spring coils, and sure enough, a big ol' washer was loosely sitting in there.

The shock has to come out of the bike to fix it, regardless. So...I think he's looking at a shock upgrade. :)

A good of reason as any, to plunk down on a fancy aftermarket shock. I serviced the forks on it earlier this year, new seals, wipers and boots, along with a good cleaning and fresh oil.

Nice El Camino! Similar lines to my mom's 67.

I think I have St Augustine in parts of my yard. It is real thick (like walking on carpet) and chokes out most of the weeds around it. I don't water it and it keeps spreading a little each year.
I do not have a green thumb so I know nothing other than cutting my grass/weeds and trimming some bushes around my house that will grow no matter how much I cut them back.

Any suggestions to get the St Augustine to spread more/faster? Weed killer on the weeds around it? Weed and feed on all of it?

One time I used a weed & feed on my law and it literally smoked 40% of the lawn. I got a free riding mower about a week ago. Supposedly the engine locked up while they were using it. It's an older mower, so they bought a new zero turn and was just going to haul this one off. I said, whoa there, I'll come and get it. Worst case scenario, it was junk, but still had some good parts I could sell.

I got around to taking a look at it today, and got it running. The engine wasn't locked up, the deck clutch was. I just removed the driver pulley and clutch from the engine, removed the clutch part and put the driver pulley back on. It's got a Kawasaki V-twin engine and runs smooth and quiet. Just got a fresh oil change and new air filter right before it pooped out on them.

I'm leaving the deck off and this mower is going to be a dedicated yard cart hauler.

Slept about 2-hours last night. Had to look (get a refresh) of the frame standoffs for the rear shock resi-at 7pm last night. Now to find plastic the same thickness that i can cut for a mold insert and drill holes in it so the mold itself holds it in place forever. Hmmmm, so i found that a $2 dollar pair of safety goggles front lens was almost perfect thickness[emoji106] u can see it in the mold if u look closely. Three pours in the mold itself middle, bottom (to hold the drilled plastic) and top.
I just opened it up (early) i have no patience[emoji39] the part is still to soft to check the underside but so far so good!!!!!!
86/87 200x part.
thanks for looking.

It actually was really fun, 3 hours worth. Only issue i had was the free falls-35 foot clip on and hold a rope and step off, gearing in a spindle type box slows u down. I needed a push the first time and of coarse the wife happily assisted:crazy:
It got busy the last hour so if u got stuck behind someone slow there was issues (couldnt) pass due to covid.....

There is a place in northern Arkansas called Horseshoe Canyon Ranch that has rock climbing, zip-line, horseback riding, etc. And they have one of those platforms where you just jump off and freefall for a second then the reel grabs and gives you a jolt and then lowers you to the ground. It was freaky but fun!

Hey Shep were you the one making the headlight rear wiring entrance grommets, like on the back of the 200ES headlight? I got out of touch with the forums for a while and seeing your pictures about molding and making stuff i couldn't help but ask if that was you or who that was. I have been trying to find a good one for another project.

Part 8 on this diagram is what i am referring to...

264876

Looks like everyone has been keeping busy, i have settled into my winter routine, find things to cross off the list. Today it was the 200ES rear left axle seal, tomorrow some wiring on the 81 200's DC conversion. Just finding stuff to occupy my free time. Thankfully nothing dramatic going on here lately, other then what the rest of the country is dealing with, but i keep my head out of whats going on and turn the music louder.

Yeah I bought it mostly for dirt and we hit a lot of roads out by big bear that are street legal only. My preference was an r but this one came up and it’s very clean. I’m going to back engineer it to mainly a dirt bike with turn signals. So much power in these though. Thanks.

Well if you ever get a wild hair up your ass and want to do some touring let me know.

A couple of us..sometimes a few hit the local deserts...Borrego, Salton sea, Salvation Mountain, etc... for a 300-400 touring day on our dual sports. Depending probably 70/30 on/off road just touring the local deserts. We've gone from Pioneer town all the way to Glamis. ..back up to julian...things like that. A lot of back roads and stuff but a lot of pave highways....kinda the only way to get 400 miles in a day. We are all in our 50's so it's a fast pace sometimes but usually a leisure/touring pace through things.

It's hard to go wrong with a XR650L.

There's flashier and faster machines available now, but that bike is easy to ride slow or fast. You don't have to wring it's neck to get speed; slow is fast.

There's also a ton of aftermarket for it.

Congratulations, that bike can do anything the rider is capable of.

That sounds awesome. I’ve never been to pioneer town I’d love to go. Unfortunately with what I’m doing to this bike 400 miles on the highway I’ll be on slicks when we get back haha. But if there’s ever a ride where it’s 80% dirt let me know or even a spot where I can meet you guys out there. I bought this just to ride on street legal forest roads. IRC ve33/35 tires on there way plus a 4gallon ims tank (plastic) big gun exhaust system removal pegs and taillight system etc. not gonna be a great highway cruiser in a couple weeks.

Nice buck, northern deer are much heavier....

The word is fluffy. :)

But, yeah, they're definitely different from what's in this area. Even traveling across the US, they are quite different. Out east, they are pretty darn small, then there's the mule deer out west. A lot of other variations between, as far as size and appearance.

The population density changes them quite a bit too. Places where there is very little hunting and no other forms of management, they are thin and stunted. Places like the edge of suburbs where some people think it's nice to feed them so they can watch them in their yards, have a population problem and sickly deer. There's also CWD (chronic wasting disease) in a lot of places and artificial feeding groups them together and spreads the disease.

I used to hunt, but don't have a large freezer for storage anymore. I still put out game cameras, just to see what's on the place. I've seen a couple nice ones come through this year. There's been more fox squirrels too, which seem to be moving back into the area.

They do have thicker winter coats, but absolutely are much heavier bodied than deer here. You can take a yearling whitetail from Texas, and stand it beside a yearling from Saskatchewan and the size difference is huge. Here in Oklahoma, a BIG doe is 125-150 lbs on the hoof. Up in Sask I wouldnt be surprised if a big doe was 175-200 lbs. Same with bucks, of course it depends if they've been corn fed from someone's feeder. That kinda throws things out of whack. But generally the further north you go, the larger the animals are compared to their southern counterparts. The extra mass holds heat better.

CWD is a big deal. I'm pretty sure they haven't had any cases in OK yet, but I know further east its pretty bad. Wisconsin is really hit hard.

It took me a minute to figure out why you would process it that way then it came to me, lol. You don't see "train kill" deer very often I imagine. To date the largest buck I had hanging in the butcher shop with no skin, hooves and trimmed of fat was 202lbs. It was a big beast with a decent 165" rack; but most bucks I've hung are around 150-160#'s normally.
We have mandatory CWD testing in this area too but I don't hear of many people bringing in their heads I'm afraid.

I got my super capacitor board in and charged it up on the 200ES battery. This is going onto my pickup, but I couldn't wait to put it into a box before trying it.

265233

Not even charged to the max voltage, it ran that YTM taillight for more than 15 minutes. Pretty impressive for a bank of capacitors weighing 1lb. Evan after letting it run down until there wasn't visible light, and at 2.25v, the terminals would still spark when rubbed together. I threw a old style ceramic resistor on it to deplete it.

Here are the specs: http://www.intronicspower.com/products/pdf/DATA%20SHEET%20ucap16-58%207-31-2015.pdf

They do say 4 AWG fits into the screw terminals, but I didn't find that to be true with the marine wire I used, hence the smaller stuff in the picture. Some 6 AWG should fit fine.

These currently won't replace batteries, but they'll allow a much smaller and less expensive battery to be used, while the life of the capacitors is very, very long. I'm just stepping into this, but would like to use them on most everything I have that currently uses a battery.

If your looking for silent kill for pests or whatever, i would not want to be in the path of one of these 7inch bolts....
At about $50 bucks its cheap fun, we spent about 4hrs sunday just shootin' stuff.
We stood guessing 75feet from the target they had plenty of power to stick over an inch into the large pine tree 30feet behind the target (aj is pointing to.
shooting "through" paint(rattle cans) but destroys the bolts(arrows) luckily bolts are cheap.....
The ones with a butt stock are better (stable)
just grabbed a scope for mine.
Needed to get the family out and these were perfect before showing them the (larger) ones.[emoji39]

Good cheap fun, just passing info along if looking for something different to try.

Sad news indeed.

Humans, by nature, are not a worthy species, but many try to be something better than a materialistic animal driven by greed, envy, and lust. Many parents try to be the best they can for their children's sake. Just about every creation story out there, starts with someone committing a wrong, and we've been carrying on that human tradition for thousands of years.

The good people try, and those that give up or give in, become bad. Technology hasn't and won't change that, but it can make slaves out of the entire world to serve the privileged few. Humans are no different than they were thousands of years ago.

I hope his family has enough support to continue financially.

Got another call on Friday to help my neighbors daughter with her first deer, a nice spike buck. Were all so happy for her! Then another call comes in from another neighbor to see if he can skin his buck in my shop who doesn't have a high enough ceiling to hang it properly. Take note of the damaged left eye and check out the trail camera picture of potentially when it happened, nuts! Me, surprisingly I didn't tag out after many miles of walking and hours sitting on my azz, lol. But with over 100 pounds of moose meat in the freezer I'm not disappointed at all. Surprisingly I seen more bull moose than bucks this winter and I have them all on video from 20-60 yards away.

Yea, hydro excavator is a back saver, and bank account saver for that part. We pot hole for utilities before any excavation, no matter how big or small the project. In all the years I've done this, I've hit a coaxial tv line, with a shovel, and got into a 6" gas main with a trencher, luckily the gas was a mess up on others, and I always take pictures before I put the bucket into the ground. Utilities can seriously injure you, or worse.

Trying to get the Trans Am started. Few months ago it was running and now it won't. I thought I had some issues with the park/neutral safety switch because these cars have a convoluted setup. Linkage running from the floor shifter to the column to mimic the previous years with column shift. But, I'm reading the 79-81 don't have that anymore.
Laying on my back under the dash and I notice some "not original" wiring which may be part of the issue. A previous owner had removed the Pontiac 301 turbo and replaced with a Chevy 350 so there is no telling what has been modded on it. Not even sure what transmission it has.

Oh well, get a wiring diagram, voltmeter, and start tracing.

That's too bad. The old GM small blocks aren't worth squat anymore with all the new engines available. It would've been more valuable with the original turbo engine. 350s are a dime a dozen.

I just watched one of those turbo 301s roll across the floor of a televised auction. Mecum or Barret Jackson. If it would've had a 350 in it, the bidding wouldn't have been nearly as high.

Yep, those 350s were everywhere. Every kid had one or a 383 stroker in their ride.

I know where a complete 301T and trans are if I ever wanted to go back original. Wouldn't be numbers matching but would get it back to "original." It would be a decision of whether I wanted to spend the time to go back with that or go LS. A 301T ain't gonna come close to LS power but fix a few of the known issues with them and they run decent. Most people didn't want to mess with the turbo so they replaced them.
Getting G-Pop Shop in Springdale to rebuild the turbo was one of the first suggestions I heard. From the factory, the things were so inconsistent where most pushed 3-4lbs max.
One other tip I heard is to run straight pipes (?2" or 3"). The turbo is supposed to quieten it enough where you don't need mufflers. Like to hear that.

Right now, just want to be able to back it out of the garage.

ATC King
12-07-2020, 11:44 AM
You could run a wire straight from the battery to the distributor and remote engage the starter. That'd at least get it started so you can move it.

If you have a line on a 301T, it'd be nice to at least have one if you decided to use it later.

Yeah, they weren't any kind of powerhouse, but they were a unique setup. You could throw some modern wizardry at it, like fuel injection and a more tunable CDI ignition, maybe even crank triggered. I think they had, or people installed, methanol injection on those, because of the lack of a intercooler. I don't think an intercooler is even an option with a draw-through system, then again, it's a short path for the turbo anyway and maybe that isn't so much of an issue.

Any of the other Pontiac engines would be cool in there. A 455, 400, or even getting more rare, the OHC I-6. Just staying away from the Olds 403 that a lot of them came with, not that it's a bad engine, but it's certainly no Pontiac 400, power wise.

That can't be stressed enough. Too many people don't make it home because they believed the job was more important than their lives. A good many people actually die because a hole fell in, even being shallow, they should all be shored up to regulation. It doesn't take long to suffocate in a collapsed construction hole.

When I was in a position of managing people I always thought of a situation like that as the person fired themselves. They knew what they were doing and knew the results if they got caught. It's a bit harder to let someone go that just can't perform the work, those are the hard ones..

What would you have lost if this continued for another 5 years? And it may even cost you the company if profits drop off from this current shat show were living in today. I think you deserve to do right by yourself/family by letting him go. When you have the conversation, ask him what he would do in the exact situation....you might be surprised at his answer? Got tired of looking for wheels for my sister-in-law's '84 200BR.

She bought new tires and asked me to put them on. They were "tubed" before I got started trying to break the bead. Bead Breaker was struggling with it so I cut the tire apart with a utility knife to see what was going on inside there. This was a few months ago. Wheel ended up being rusted to the point of trashed, so I started looking for new ones. Couldn't find any that were aftermarket in 9x9 and 4x150, and the only used ones were $75/ea and up plus shipping on the Bay.

Found these wheels on The Bay....9x9 6-3 offset with a 4x137 bolt pattern but they were $75 shipped FOR THE PAIR and they were new.

So I snatched them up and took over a mill center at work this morning for an hour, setup the wheels, indicated wheel center, and drilled the 4x150 pattern in them clocked 90° from the other holes. She's good to go now. Hubs fit good. The offset was nice because the old tire sometimes rubs the new DG pipe when you're going hard in a turn. The offset keeps the inside of the right rear tire out of the muffler.

I'll mount new valve stems and the tires tonight or tomorrow.

For sure, the offset is nice. Thanks for that tidbit about the stock being too close to the aftermarket exhaust. It's a bummer to rub a hole through a new muffler and a dirt covered tire can do that pretty darn quickly.

Now that our big game seasons are over, I went for a walk in my hunting area with a friend to put up some trail cameras to see what is still around. Found some tufts of moose hair on the trail in a spot where the snow was trampled flat in a 10yard circle and wondered out loud about what was going on. Walked another 1/4 mile and heard the ravens going nuts deep in the bush. I told my neighbor that there's a dead moose in there. This is the area I watched two 40" bulls feeding two weeks ago and thought maybe one of them was down. Went in to investigate and turns out this small cow must have got hit by wolves or a cougar and has been dead maybe a day or two. I even found a bed where she lay for some time 100 yards away from her full of blood. It was only after we were home for awhile that my neighbor said we should of put a camera up over the kill to see what shows up, dang why didn't we think of that then! It's currently a balmy -9F and a 1 1/2 mile walk in to get to her....think I'll pass on going back, lol.

Is it weird that I'm wondering if you can cut some off the undisturbed part of the moose carcass and then cook it really good and be ok?

I mean, he said a couple days, but Pete also mentioned it's single digit temps, so the meat froze pretty fast after death and probably hasn't seen temps above freezing during the day. I vote 'good' [emoji848]

When I was growing up, well, a kid, cause I'm still growing up! Dads rule was if you shoot it you eat it, other than the barn birds he had a bounty on. I've ate lots of critters, vehicle kill or wounded white tail are on that list but the meat is usually so bruised and mangled it's not worth the effort unfortunately. If your hungry you eat what's presented to you, not ask a million questions about it. Ask me how I know..

Looks like a moosicle

Is it weird that I'm wondering if you can cut some off the undisturbed part of the moose carcass and then cook it really good and be ok?

I mean, he said a couple days, but Pete also mentioned it's single digit temps, so the meat froze pretty fast after death and probably hasn't seen temps above freezing during the day. I vote 'good' [emoji848]

..... In a survival situation, of course

I've never had moose that I can recall, but elk meat is tasty. I imagine moose to taste like Canadian Angus with a hint of Maple syrup, no? Heehee

Sent from my Z958 using Tapatalk

Viable questions Doug but I would only attempt that in a survival situation as you stated; I'm leaving it to nature I'm afraid. El Cam nailed it on quality of meat being linked to the mechanism of death. The meat would be questionable at best taking into consideration on how she died. Wolves don't go for a "clean kill" and may even start eating before it's completely dead if the dangerous hooves are out of commission. I suspect the meat would be full of adrenaline and very gamey tasting. I would of needed a sharp chainsaw to get through that critter as she was frozen like a brick too and I only had my requisite axe when walking in the bush!

And for the record I've eaten a fresh road kill moose calf that we've seen get hit so it was salvageable except for a front quarter. In my opinion, moose is hands down better than beef any day; and to think the 'snowflakes' who scream "eat organic" think they have it figured out, lol.

Well at least there's something there for the kids to go tobogganing over the holidays....or do they just do that on x-box now?

I like menial tasks such as grass cutting, snow shoveling, wood cutting etc. At least you have a measurable outcome to your efforts unlike office work most days.

I remember an episode of Classic Tractor Fever (I think it was that show) that had some real old Lanz or Cockshutt or something like that pulling a pull grader......with someone standing on it. It might have been something with an old hit and miss engine.

Farming is still hard but doing it on some old steam power rig was a lot different then the equipment used today. I like that kind of old power on display

Went to check out the trail cameras we put up 8 days ago and were pleasantly surprised by the animal movement. This time around we put one up over the moose kill to see what comes around....hopefully we don't get a 100 pictures of ravens! Took our 11 month pup for the walk and she did great navigating the snow (drifted 8-10" in places) and getting through the forest litter. Check out the snowball beard on her! There's only one problem I'm having.....I'm trying to find big bucks and not moose! Guess I better find a different area. My neighbor should have a chance to get a bull moose tag next Fall so hopefully these don't get driven out of here by then.

I'm training a 18yo welder I hired last year to become my new ATV/ATC frame / swingarm builder. It took him 1 hour to try and cut to two round gussets....he did decent, I wanted him to try and think. Good on ya! It's tough to be a mentor at times knowing what you can do in a short amount of time compared to what they can do. We all need to remember that we were all beginners at everything once! At 18, would they be in a welding apprenticeship program 1st year or something? Expand on the Mt Dew comment please, me no comprehend? is there more to it than what's there?

I hired him out of vo-tech his last year in 12th grade. I wanted a kid who could tig alum to fill the gap when another alum welder takes vacation since he has 5 or 6 weeks thats alot of time not welding alum.

Covid hit and i said screw it come in FT. He's been here ever since. I have the kid started out doing alot of side jobs for my toys. Fix this do that, make this. I can do it but if someone else can I can focus on the business side of things which I need do and then I am not here in the shop every weekend working on my crap. So after a few tries on things ge started getting the hang of things. He knows about HRE...my goal is to turn him into my own PERSONAL HRE. I simply cannot or will not run to HRE everytime i need somthing. But the odd things I will use HRE for yet. We make sure things for fire trucks and 4x4 vans....so little atv and trike parts no issues just need to do it and deal with it.

I have them trained pretty good in the laser cutting and welding smaller stuff.

After the kid did a side job I treat him to MT. Dew....it's that simple. I cant buy him a case of beer yet so I buy him a cew cartons of Mt. Dew.

Heres a 250X frame he started welding. I am going to have him at new shock tower for 450R front end I have laying around and maybe we will go a 350X rear end not sure yet.

He will also be converting some roll design foot pegs into 250x/300ex roll design pegs...not somthing that was ever made. Last time they were made into warrior. the time before that they were made into KFX700...the started as KFX450R lol.

It's ok to cut up things and turn them into other things. You won't learn until you deg right in. I have a junk 300ex swingarm I want to to cut up and lets see how it was made, then make a new longer one. If you cant you cant, but its free to try. Well not really buy I let him use junk metal to start with. I had a blaster swinger extended 1.5" last year. It helped the kid learn. I made drawings and had all parts lazer cut to it jfit together like a puzzel.

Hardest thing is trusting somone with tools to work on your stuff. They will never do it the way you do but they will learn how things need to look when finished.

Started out digging some test holes for a new building we are starting soon, then had to go dig up a forced main sewer and a water line because there was a grade conflict and you need a minimum of 18" of separation between them at the pipe size we were running, got that fixed and checked off with the board of health. Loaded up the mini and office called and said that he had a slight emergency repair. Turns out a steering wheel holder ran into a bunch of stuff at a gas station, knocked a light pole over into the power lines, wasnt really in the lines it was about 4' off and they weren't power, just comm and traffic stuff. So I loaded up the other hoe and went and took care of it. Took longer to unchain the machine than it did to straighten up the pole. Everyone was shocked that I had it done in about 8 minutes.

I've rebuilt a few Zenith carbs (if you remember those). I think their TVs were better, which isn't saying much...

I remember the first day we switched from Walbro to Zama carbs on the chainsaw production line, because I was one of the unfortunate souls tasked with setting them. The first few batches of Zama carbs were a total mess. I guess that's just the price for going from Mexican to Chinese built; it's all lost in translation.

Just passing through. Every time I've gone through there, I keep saying I'm going to take a picture of the city limit sign; I finally did.

To note, their water tower is nearly 100 year old and on the historic register.

I haven't been stopping too much at random places, because of Covid. I'm sleeping in my truck and resupply only when needed. Some of the small state parks I've visited, I haven't seen a single other person. Those are the unstaffed parks, more or less, historical parks. They may have a half mile hiking trail, but that's about it other than some information placards for the historical stuff.

I did make it by the cemetery where Arkansas's first governor is buried. Nothing there but the cemetery though, and it's right next to a cow pasture, so it smells a little bit. I've been meaning to stop by the place for years; now I finally did. History is super important...regardless of politics.

I'm in the process of building a red neck zamboni using my atv tub trailer with a dribble bar coming off the rear and dragging a rubberized welding blanket behind to smooth everything out. Yeah but those bad po-po would have done far worse if those were BLM peaceful protestors. You remember? The peaceful ones..... not the ones setting fire to police stations, breaking windows of businesses, and taking over city blocks.

Now there are senators calling for some of the Republicans' heads that had been siding with Trump up until the capitol was stormed. Where were their cries for civility when cities were getting trashed? Oh, those weren't the peaceful ones though. They want to carve out the good and bad in their cause.
I guess you could do the same with what happened yesterday? If you stormed the capitol, you gonna get shot. If you stayed outside and didn't force your way past barriers? Oh no, they were rioters too.

Damn hypocrites....if it's my cause, it's a protest regardless of the bad apples in the bunch.
If it's your cause..... lawless rioters.

Not wanting to drag anything down to the basement or up from it; my last statement on rioting in the US.

I'm sure without even looking at the list, some people here remember a certain incident that involved the national guard killing four students on a college campus.

It's all throughout US history, and it keeps repeating itself. Stay safe out there in 2021.

A few days late, but...

I hiked over a mountain to buy some beer, and hiked back. About a five mile trip.

I collect growlers. Unbelievable I haven't added these to my collection until now.

That is so cool ATC! Nice looking stream in the background, bet you could drink from it! How was the beer? I know if I hiked 5 miles it would have been gone:-)

Perfectly true......protesting in the USA is nothing new and even patriotic.

The narrative of that young woman's death in the capital got to me.....how she was rioting and the media almost reports like she deserved one in the chest. Yet when some black person gets shot the media reports it like evil racist kkk cop kills for sport another college bound loving unarmed black child coming home from church.

I dislike the media

They justify her killing because they didn't agree with the mob's right to assemble and because if she were black (I'm sorry.....Black) whitey would have shot 10 of her. Or "you" have done far worse to "us"
Bunch of rhetoric.

The beer was good. I got two different types, but don't remember which ones. I've been there several times before, but never got a growler. It's just a unique kind of place and that particular bathhouse had been unoccupied long before they renovated it into a brewery.

The hiking trails are nice and the weather was cool, so it wasn't too bad. There's about 26 miles of trail in total, and I've hiked all of them, just not on that day. Sunset trail is the longest and goes around the entire National Park and has some great views. It can be done in sections because there are several road crossings that have parking available. They do have organized trail runs, for anyone who participates in those. Hot Springs is a really unique place and there's quite a bit to do if a person likes outdoor actives along with a little night life.

Modified my ATV tub trailer into a red neck zamboni to maintain the lake rink. It turned out pretty good I think, just need to modify the seal on the plywood and add a filler hole. We used approx 600 gallons of 104 degree water from my neighbors hot tub to help melt the snow crystals. We did it early in the morning with temps around 6F and it took just over 2 hours to do the whole surface. As a nice surprise a local pub got wind of the rink we maintain and gave each family a munchie platter as thanks from the community.

Yeah, the Mickey's grenades have a what's actually called a rebus puzzle, under the caps.

I don't drink them much at all, but sometimes I buy a six-pack just for the puzzles. Malt liquor isn't exactly top shelf stuff, it'll hit you like a Colt 45, and give you the Schlitz (high-hat in the background - I'll be here all night).

Malt liquor is THE 40oz, it's the top seller in neighborhoods that only have convenience stores. The bad thing is, most of it comes in plastic now. OK, that's not the bad thing. The bad thing is inside the plastic.

For that puzzle on the picture I posted (because it's kind of hard to see), it's a stop sign, a ham, the letter R, and a clock face.

Stop! Hammer Time!

Those look great shep. Someone else got the taillight I was looking at on Ebay (paid stupid $$ for it), so I can't pull a picture up of it, but I think the bushing it was missing was the basic round one that goes through the grab bar/frame. Those aren't available either (other than a single NOS one on Ebay, haha. I'd be interested in a set of those when they're ready.

For any old website, if you'd still like to look at it, you can use Wayback Machine.

I have no pics to share and it wasn't necessarily today - but last week or so I have been really deep cleaning in the shop. Lots of sweeping/shoveling/brooming and collecting of trike parts and misc stuff to carry off elswhere and get out of the way. Organizing and trying to get things a bit more functional. The last 5 years I've just worked so much I have not had or made time to really be in there often enough to keep up with cleaning duties and just keeping things more organized. Making some good headway though and it's starting to turn back into something I can see myself actually working in from time to time again.

Hope to get get the two-wheeler rotax up on the table and do some more on it in a few months if we aren't fighting a zombie apocalypse.

I just parked it when I got home and walked away; didn't even want to look at it.

I'm running six into two headers on the 300 six. Just an issue with headers on an inline. These headers aren't particularly well fitting, so that's the major part of it. I'm not sure of the brand, because I haven't seen another set with similar primary bends, and I can remove the starter with them in place. Most other brands make getting the starter off nearly impossible without loosening things up.

I'm kicking around replacing them with the dual EFI cast manifolds. Less heat, less noise, longer lasting, and better sealing.

Power Nation recently done a N/A 300 build, getting 300ft/lb of torque, with a nearly stock engine except bolt on parts and a cam. They done a turbo Chevy 292, getting over 500ft/lb. There's an insane Turbo Jeep inline build, with more than 800 horsepower.
