I watched a youtube video of a guy changing out his swingarm on his 250es big red and he removes everything including the driveshaft. I want to do a resto on my 85 250sx this spring and would like to remove the swing arm in order to paint it and change out the bearings as well as install a new boot I purchased. I came across a post in which someone said they accidentally removed their engine output drive shaft and heard the only way to reinstall it was to split the cases. Someone then chimed in that it can be put back once you fish out a first gear washer, remove the right sided case etc. So I'm not sure if these are 2 different parts or not. Can someone help me out here? Thank you.

This thread in post #6 references the output shaft as the part that shouldn't be removed but the driveshaft u joint can be removed. I'm pretty sure its the driveshaft u joint that can be removed. Can someone show me what the output shaft that SHOULDN'T be removed looks like? I can not find a pic of it in parts schematics. http://www.3wheelerworld.com/showthread.php/120361-250sx-output-shaft-back-in-Miracles-may-happen!!!?highlight=250sx+output+shaft

P.S. Long time member hear going back to the early 2000's. Been gone awhile, it's nice to be back!

Some parts get called different names and sometimes it gets confusing , but what I call the output shaft or angle drive is the part attached to the countershaft of the tranny and is attached to the left engine case with 3 large machine screws.....so removing it by mistake actually takes quite a bit of effort. The actual driveshaft attaches to this output shaft and connects to the rear end. So the part you're looking for is attached to the rear left side of the engine with 3 fairly large screws with Allen key heads. It's what the forward end of the driveshaft is attached to. Hope this helps.

So it's ok to pull out the u joint shaft correct?

So don't remove the 3 Allen bolts of this "right angle" out put shaft.

And the u joint shaft will slide right off of that right angle splined shaft and go back on no problem.
