View Full Version : Numbers matching frames and quads?
Was looking at a couple of my buddy's 250rs and banshees today...a couple a almost original and low hours, how ever none of the engine numbers matched the frame numbers...is this normal? Or were they never matched from the factory? Just curious and never thought about it until today.

The numbers on the frames are not the same as the numbers on the engines. There are vin look ups online that show model year vins for frames and motors but they are not the same on anything I have ever owned.

The two are not stamped with the same number, they each have their own serial number sequence (last 6 of the VIN or last 7 of the engine number). You can at least confirm that the engine is the correct year for the machine though. Reference this link to see what year each engine serial number was meant for:

Sounds good. Ive seen some quads advertised on eBay as "numbers matching", must be BS then. Thank you.

My 88 blaster does have a portion of the same alphabet letters and sequence numbers that do match part of the vin and motor. Coincidence??? Don't know for sure. But all of the motor numbers do match part of the vin.

On the Honda ATCs, the parts of the two numbers that will match will simply be the part that represents the model year and type of ATC. For example, the 1985 350x VIN and Engine code will both contain "TE08E" since this denotes a 1985 350x. But like I mentioned above, the actual serial number portion (the part that counts the numbers of engines or machines produced) is not coordinated between the ATC frame and the engine.
