I just purchased a very nice 200es to add to my collection. This will be my third 84 200es and I am very much an amateur restorer. We had one growing up on the farm and I am essentially reliving my youth. I am by no means a gear head so please bare with me; I do have a lot of respect for those who are. The three wheeler is in really good shape and still has all the stickers. I have since removed the basket and all the registration stickers. My question is...how hard is it to replace just the muffler? One exists on the three wheeler but most of it is corroded off and it is much louder than I want. Not terrible but bad enough that it backfires and annoys my neighbors. I notice some are for sale on ebay. Here is a good example... http://www.ebay.com/itm/1984-Honda-ATC-200es-Big-Red-Exhaust/263063503894?_trksid=p2485497.m4902.l9144

I am slightly worried this one on ebay won't be any better than the one I have on there. I'll upload some pics of the three wheeler but I didn't take any yet of the muffler. Let me know your thoughts. Or if you have any other ideas. I'd prefer OEM parts but I am open to anything. Even a silencer, if possible. Thanks! (FIRST TIME POSTING SO PLEASE BE NICE)

Hi, welcome to 3ww!. A used exhaust should be ok, but the particular one that you were looking at on ebay has had the spark arrester cut off and if you look at the joint where it meats the head pipe, it is very oily so the muffler probably has lots of oil in it too.

Does this look like an okay replacement muffler?

No, the spark arrester has been cut off and the bike it was on was burning a LOT of oil, judging by the joint where it meets the head pipe.

Does this one look like it's burned a lot of oil too? I mean, why would someone put a defective muffler on Ebay. LOL. Where do I go to find a good, reasonably priced muffler?

I wouldn't worry about how much oil the engine it was on burned. It probably helped preserve it to some extent and will soon burn out on your machine.
I'd worry about rust

I typically weld them up if they are not too bad. Most of the time the spark arrestors are gone. I will weld a section of exhaust on the end for a tailpipe. See link for more details.

Yeah, that is amazing work. But I don't have a welder. All I'm looking for is a newer "used' muffler so my bike isn't super loud. Should I just keep looking at ebay or do you have a better idea? Thanks.

Right here from 3 wheeler parts you can purchase a new muffler for your atc200es. I purchased one of the first ones they sold. Fast shipping, part fits perfectly and very quiet. You cannot go wrong with one of these. I really like the one that I purchased.

I do like the muffler, although it is priced higher than I would like. Since it is not a Honda OEM part and is aftermarket, do you think that would affect the value of the bike or the resale of the bike at all?
