Hi,
The one way centrifugal clutch bearing on my ATC200M is pretty stiff. Doesent want to turn very easily. Is this normal?

Also, what are the consequences of running a ATC with a bad one way bearing? Is there anything that it can hurt in the motor?

And how does one remove the one way bearing?

Is it the one for the starter or clutch drive?? Either way it's not too good.. it should turn freely in 1 direction..

One for the clutch. I think that the one way bearing in the clutch is to keep it from spinning like that after shutdown and to help with engine braking. I have a 185s with a bad one way on the clutch and I havent noticed any ill effects. But I was just wondering.

Does anyone know how to remove the one way bearing thats in the centrifugal clutch hub? Is it even possible to remove it? Couldnt find any info online on r&r that bearing.

Bump.

Anyone ever removed the one way bearing? Or know how it comes out? Looks to me like I need a puller of some kind, but I have no idea what type I need and where I would find one to pull that bearing.

The service manual covers removal and inspection of the one-way clutch in the section on the Centrifugal Clutch (page 8-6 through 8-11). Nothing too tricky to remove it.

* Remove left side engine cover
* Remove oil filter rotor
* Remove large nut holding one-way clutch on (left handed thread!)

The one-way clutch is in the clutch drum. The one-way will come out easily by hand. BEFORE YOU REMOVE IT: Pay attention to which way it turns freely and which way it locks. Be sure to put it back the same way. It is possible to put the one-way in backwards, and trust me on this, things don't work right when you do that.

Yes, I have the service manual. I know how to remove the clutch drum, thats no problem. The one way clutch centre with the splines on it comes out easy too. I just do not know how to remove the one way clutch sprag bearing thats in the centre of the hub; the part that the one way bearing splined centre piece fits into. Seems to be pressed in there. Service manual just says to remove it, doesnt say how or what tools are needed. Looked on you-tube and couldnt find any videos on this either.

So do I need pliers or something to pull it out? Or could I maybe lightly tap the drum on a bench and would it come out?

Ok, so after some more messing around, I got the bearing out. Popped out easy enough with a screwdriver. Thanks for the help.

Do you know how the clutch one way is supposed to feel? I have 2 other one way sprag bearings that turn very freely and smooth. I think they are also worn out though. I do have a one way clutch sprag that feels alot "stiffer", as in doesent turn as easily as the others. But is still smooth. If anyone can tell what a one way sprag in good shape should feel like I would appreciate it.

The deal is if there is the slightest HINT of play in the opposing direction, it's on the way out....

Ah, ok thanks. I found a one way bearing off a parts motor that is nice and tight, should be good to go I think.
