I know noone likes them but I have kids and it will work fine for them.Anyway someone brought me two of these and said to make one run and the other I could have. One needs a top end the other I was able to get to idle but as soon as you give it throttle it dies. I have taken the carb apart and cleaned the jets and all vents (thats how I got it to idle). It seems to have good compression (I don't have a comp tester). I pulled the reeds out and checked them there ok. anyone have any suggestions??

Did you happen to let it idle long enough to warm up? Ive got one here that has a choke not working, and it will do that until it warms up.
If it is not a choke problem Id would suspect an airflow problem of some sort. For test purposes, take off the air cleaner, and the exhaust and then see if it will run. If either are clogged it will give you similar symptoms.

try switching carbs with the second bike, i had the same exact problem and i switched carbs to one i new worked and figured out that the carb i had on it had a couple problems with it, because it ran perfect with the other "good" carb. also id check air filter and maybe check the silencer also to see if its clogged. also check the plug out on it

I have looked at the other carb it is really bad i mean "nasty bad". I have not tried to take off the silencer. I have removed the air filter to see if it was clogged i mean it looked clean but thought what the heck. I will try the silencer and see if it helps. THANX

the problem with mine was that "needle jet thingy" the jet thing that moves up and down with the float was frozen up and wasnt able to move up and down on my blaster carb and ounce i took it apart and freed it up the blaster ran like a dream. id bet that is a very possible problem with it. it was on my blaster

I have been thru carb again I don't see anything wrong. I am gonna try to remove the silencer tonite to see if it helps. Would it be possible to have a bad CDI???

I have decided to give both back after further inspection. The one I was gonna get needs too much to make it cost effective to keep. Thanks for the info. I will prob need it again in the trike forum as I am gonna restore my 85 Tri-Z.

yep, had the same problem with my 185, it would idle but soon as you gassed it, it would die. all it was, was an air leak through the intake. i made a new gasket and put it on and walla, runs perfect.
