This is my theory

Sometimes when the seal wears grooves too deep, a machinist will turn down the seal area and then make a sleeve to fit over that to bring the part back to it's original outer diameter.

They are supposed to be pressed or shrunk fit on there with an interference fit so that it won't come off like that one did. A seal surface can also be built up with weld and turned back down to size but then you have to deal with the effects of lots of heat on that hub.

If that is in fact a sleeve, do you think Loctite would hold it in place if he wants to reuse it?

If that is in fact a sleeve, do you think Loctite would hold it in place if he wants to reuse it?Yeah if it's still fairly tight, he can use green loctite to help hold it on. We use green loctite (I think it's 609, iirc) to help hold loose bearing fits.

From the looks of the pic, the sleeve is rough looking and grooved up but that could just be grease and dirt. If it's nice and smooth inside and out, he could try green loctite on it.

I saw a thread on a trx 250r site kinda like this but it was a sleeve for the aluminum aftermarket hubs . I would get a different rear disc hub.Or have a new sleeve made and tac weld it on. Or have it pressed on.

The rear axle bearing carrier seals are 52x62x7. Check if the outer diameter of the sleeve is anywhere close to 52 mm. I agree with the other guys, it looks like a sleeve to clean up the seal surface of the brake hub.

It's been bugging me that I couldn't remember the name for those sleeves as I had to put one on a pinion shaft once, but I remembered last night. They called it a "speed sleeve".

I've got a brake hub stashed away somewhere that looks to have a sleeve in the same spot. I thought it looked different at the time, but didn't pay it much attention.
