Having spent the last three weeks at Glamis, Veterans Day thru Thanksgiving holidays, perfect weather, met and ask several 3ww members if they planned to attend this years Invasion. Thanks to jb2wheels posting in last years Invasion thread, Dates set for Feb 10-17 2018. I as many other members don't have FB accounts so this forum is our contact with fellow enthusiasts. I'll be arriving early and should park/camp somewhere near past years locations. Hope to see old friends and meet new ones.

Post up if your planning to go.

Paddles work best, but several members use and like their knobbies.

I'll add this map of previous camp locations where it's been located the last four years. Mostly hard packed with a couple soft spots hear and there.

Hey Shawn, if you can get a set of the old "pro wedge" tires, or the new copy ones that are out now, you won't be disappointed on how they work on the 350x's at the dunes. I like them much better than knobbies or paddles.

Sure! What sizes? I have a set of 9” rims in the shed collecting dust. Pics?
Benefits over paddle tires? Dig better slide easier? My bike is not a dragged by any stretch of the imagination so ride ability would be priority. Right now I have skat track paddles.

The 4snows get really big when aired up. The ones I run are from a company named unilli or something like that. They are 4 ply so they don't balloon up like the 4snows or the original pro wedge. There is a 6 ply version made by SUN tires also. I'm not sure but I think the original pro wedges only came in 8" inch as they were factory option for the 200x back in the day. The unilli brand are only $99 a pair shipped (amazon or ebay) and come in 9". The 6 ply from SUN is $30-$40 more.

Yes, that's what's on the 450. For some reason those type of tires don't work as well on my 250R. But I really like them on the 4 strokes. I only run 4-5 psi on them also.

From my limited research over the last 18 hours that seems pretty on par , high power two stokes 250r and banshees etc) don’t like em but all the thumpers do. Probably something to do with the initial wheel speed when your dumping the clutch vs a thumper is a bit more gradual. Thanks for all the info guys.

Any and all are welcome to join us. It's not limited to 3 wheelers only, bring any sand toy you wish to ride. As we all know the skill levels are different for each individual so there's different group rides going to different destinations, experts, racers and what I call family rides. Bring a little firewood as there's usually a group campfire at night.

My wife went with me both times I went. She had a bad accident at Rasor a few years back and busted herself up pretty bad, so she is a cautious rider now. At the Invasion there is all levels of riders and plenty of women riders. I did the early rides with the "big boys" and then a later one with her with the riders that prefer a slower pace. She actually ended up doing a lot of duneing with Cycle guy Steve in his sand rail back to the "big" sand. The people that go to the Invasion are all really nice and very welcoming. Male, Female, young ,old.

Bring your wife. She'll have a good time and finally see that there is a lot of other people that are into trikes as much as you.

Look at post #8 where I've attached a localized jpg map of where we have camped the last couple years. The location is in the "Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area" also known as "Glamis - Sand Dune Capital of the World" south end of dunes between El Centro, CA. and Yuma, AZ. Several members come from the east coast including a couple from Florida.

Rider skill isn’t the issue for her. She can ride. I’ve built the 400 to be very comfortable and easy access to power. I just don’t wanna take her to a boys trip lol. Also don’t wanna be that guy who brought his girl to boys night out. Thanks Bob I’ll pass the word. She ride later a lot she’s just never been to glamis is all. I only go every couple years. Mostly Rasor ocotillo and Gorman.

I technically don’t get the day off so I’ll be taking the day on some O.T. ( Own Time) I was thinking Presidents weekend and taking Friday off, but I can swap it for the weekend before.

As I recall last year the first weekend was the bigest turnout as most of the locals were there and some stayed during the week as work schedules allowed.
A little quieter during the week but still a big group of us out of town invaders and some hard core locals.
The hi-mile invaders start leaving Saturday. Gotta work Monday.

I agree with John, can only relate to last years Invasion as it was scheduled same time frame, the largest concentration of die-hard 3 wheeler group gathered the weekend before President's holiday weekend. As all holiday weekends become a large crowded zoo of sand toys.

My plans are to travel Wednesday 2/07 to Dunebuggy Flats / Buttercup and setup camp on Thursday same area as last year. Only 2 weeks away.

Does anyone have a update on whether Duner's Diner will be open? Know they've been under construction for months now. If not then those people who normally rely on the Diner for food or ice will need to plan ahead. Tried calling their phone number answer message says number disconnected. Haveing a toy hauler negates most of this problem for me at this point in life but I did purchase one of those Walmart knock off yeti coolers (ozark trail) and it keeps ice for about a week in California winter weather. Not super proud of buying Chinese made Walmart product. They do make a USA made cooler from lifetime about the same price. A buddy of mine has it works great. Unless you can justify the yeti/ artic cooler. There better but I use mine for cold soda three times a year. Moral of the story is they keep ice for a while.

Locally where I live. Wish that wasn’t the case. Looking forward to twisting
some dunes next wknd with the 3 wheeler crew! I was out there last Nov before
Thanksgiving. We stayed up north near sweet Marie’s and it was great as always.

Some are and some aren’t. Depends on the size , the tundra is made here and in the Phillipenes. You can call and request a USA made cooler. But the cost just isn’t worth it for me. Had the lifetime cooler existed when I bought mine I would have gone that route but oh well now.

When I was shopping for high end cooler I found out that the yeti's are now made in the Phillipenes also. I ended up buying a Pelican cooler. They are made in Arizona. Built better than the Yeti and costs quite a bit less. As of now I own a Yeti and a Pelican. The Pelican has proven to better in every way. I got it strait from the factory with free shipping.

Yeti's are surviving on there name. One of the off road mags I get did a high end cooler shoot out the yeti did fair so well there is a lot better coolers out there for less money

BOB MARLIN
02-07-2018, 09:55 AM
It's a lot of money to pay for a cooler. Too much really. But I have been able to keep Ice in my 60 QT. Pelican for 10 days, and if your somewhere where there is no ice available I guess it makes it worth the money. You still have to be smart about how you load them, don't open them unless you have to, and keep them out of the sun to be able to keep ice for an extended time.

Well another year and some great riding as always. I would like to thank everyone
Who helped us get the bus and trailer out of Gordon’s as you all know what a mess
We had on our hands, and the race against time to catch plane back home. I would
Like to make a suggestion however. Please seriously consider moving this up north
To either Gecko or if room is a concern, to the area behind beach store and vender
Row. Tons of real estate behind store and most importantly flat solid ground.
Gordon’s has deteriorated to a point that it’s tough to get in and out without
Fear of getting hung up. Many people have large heavy rigs these days and that
Trend is growing. Forcing large heavy vehicles to go way faster than is safe to
Have momentum just to get thru the long sand soft areas. It’s unnecessarily
Hard on things. Small trucks and trailers are not the problem. Please consider
The north location for future gatherings. We have stayed up there for years and
Have never been hassled by BLM or anyone else. Brawley is 20 minutes away
For food, gas etc. firewood, shirts, water and things are right there at vender
Row and storage. Unlimited open space makes that area easy to access off
A smooth hwy78. And the north dunes and closer to all the biggest stuff and
Popular hills. Hopefully we can make a positive location change that benefits all
Who attend this event from both near and far. If you all didn’t already know this,
Harry is a rockstar!!! Holefully we will see you on Gecko loop in a few
Weeks for a few cold beers and some chat! Thanks again Harry!!!

On Tuesday this group of individuals decided to take the long ride up sand highway to the Glamis Beach Store. I logged 60 miles round trip on my Voyager GPS computer. We made a stop at a fellow 3 wheeler camper at Roadrunner on Gecko Road, Glamis. The whole trip was an experience for many, and I need to thank my son's friend ( mine too ) Terry for the gas several people got to enable their trip back. A slight mistake in first getting E-85 gas, another story to be told by others. Hopefully lessons learned for future trips.

Didn't get a chance to ride with you, so many different groups and skill levels, maybe next year.

Oh no problem Harry. I had a great time and appreciate the hospitality. Next year for sure. I’m going to try and take a few extra days off and also come a bit better prepared , hopefully a new truck but at least an air compressor this time so I can deflate! Thanks again!

I was up at roadrunner. Never got a chance to ride down to Gordons my buddy broke his back in his razor.

Were you camped on the southeast side of the road just before it splits to form the loop, saw a couple 3 wheelers setting there and guys waved at me. Sorry couldn't stop was on a mission to get someone else needed help and not able to return. How's your buddy doing, hate to see anyone get hurt.
