I found this little gem the other day for a cheap price so being the accessory Guru I had to get it haha. Also saw on the brochure for this bike that they made an optional stereo system... gotta wonder what that would look like from back in the day[emoji41]https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180528/1ffd1d0f558eb1cda279dc3b8100f82b.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180528/10e469f0d1acd4093027a8843ab27165.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180528/5890f0c796a71df5167f07f3bff185b3.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180528/5d56285484c0e1d7ab4a38d7e2eee53d.jpg

I’ve never heard of, or seen one of those before, nice buy!
I wonder if that sound system takes 8 tracks?

Haha yeah really. I'm surprised they didn't make Speedo kits for these things, seems like Honda made them for just about every model they had.

I don’t know how old you are, so I’m not sure what you remember of that time period, but Honda was a monster and in 1985 Yamaha took a run at them by increasing the amount of models they offered to the public greatly, mostly street stuff. The economy cooled off and Yamaha was left with a world full of hurt.
Had the gamble worked out and the ban not happened I have no doubt Yamaha would have tried to catch up to Honda in the ATV market and we would have speedos and a lot more aftermarket parts for our toys.

Hopefully that spot light is brighter than the headlight that comes on the DX/DR! Yamaha dropped the ball on that one!

For crying out loud John, all you need to do is keep the revs over 6,000 and you can see just fine for over 12' out with the stock light.
Hey Patblkwell, I can see you're totally into perfection, so I hope you won't take offence when I mention the condition of your foam bar protector. When looking for mine I found they were still selling them for the Yamaha quads of the late 80's and I think they are as close to identical as one could hope. You may want to check around.
This is the best photo of it that I can find. Check the handlebar part numbers to be sure. I don't recall any cutting or other issues to get it to fit. If anything its an inch shorter than the stocker.

My uncle's family all had 3 wheelers then 4 wheelers once they were banned (this was in the mid 80s). I remember one of my cousins had a yamaha and everyone else had Hondas. I've had more Hondas overall in my lifetime due to there just being more of them available.

Yeah I did notice that the headlight is not very bright unless the RPMs are high....I was surprised to learn that it also only works if the engine is running but i guess they did that to prevent battery drainage.

This one is 9.5” long. Not sure what stock is. If I find the P/N I’ll let you know.

Nice light. I didn't know that they offered them either. Wouldn't the sound system from the 80's just be a ghetto blaster strapped to the front rack? That way it's portable too for the times you wanted to walk around carrying it on your shoulder to look cool.

I would tend to think that it would be a metal "water resistent" radio that came with a bracket to mount on the handlebars somewhere....

252626Okay I measured the crossbar pad on mine and it is 11.5 inches long... I think that is why I was having trouble finding one to replace it last time I tried to find one.

Actually they are Yamaha OEM grips… They do look similar to the Honda ones though.
