View Full Version : Thoughts on fmf 85-86 250r pipe and silencer?
What wondering what the overall opinion is on these. I may have an opportunity to trade a set of banshee pipes and silencers for a new fmf pipe and silencer for my 86'
Just wondering how much of a performance difference they make over stock. My understanding is they aren't as good as one of the specialty pipes.

My 85 had an old fmf fatty and silencer when I bought it. It had a good mid rpm hit and made good power but lacked on the top end. Not sure if the pipe design ever changed but that was just my experience.

I have ran many pipes in the 250r. FMF isn’t that great of a pipe, but better than stock. Gains are minimal and noise is exponential. I would hold out for a paul turner type 6 woods pipe, bills or spend the coin and get a hand made sectional from kenny Roberts or maybe Arlen Lehman.

Compared to my Paul Turner Hi-rev pipe, the FMF underperforms. I changed from running my PT to my FMF about a year ago just to compare them, and there's a big difference.

Fmf is still around for a reason.... its nice to know if you need parts for a system a year from now fmf will still be in business.

I have an fmf pipe and silencer on my 85 r, it does lack on the top. I also agree that it is nice you can go to them still, but I ran an r with a Paul turner pipe and man it was way better!

I've never run one myself, but I hear Eddy Sander's ATC5 is another really good pipe and you can still get them.

FMF is better than stock but that's about it. Spend the coin even if your motor is just mildly built, I have an LED pipe and it's the best pipe I've ever ran but the ESR pipes, CT pipes and any handmade pipe by the good builders will outperform the FMF everywhere.
