Only have one machine measured currently. Most newer TRX models all spec their ignition parts in peak voltage. To keep the tech details to a min (let me know if someone wants to see the circuit and such), but the peak voltage is a pretty critical thing to have good for solid strong spark and swapping CDI's around and such could be an issue if peak voltage isn't high enough for the newer CDI and such.
Generically, this is the typical spec for newer machines (taken from a 1998-2001 TRX450ES/S Honda Service Manual). Tests are done at cranking speed (kick/pull start, or if available, electric start).
Exciter Coil - 100v min peak voltage
Pulse Generator - 0.7v min peak voltage
1986 ATC350X, readings taken at around 32F with cold engine.
Exciter Coil - 75 ohms (from memory, it in the mid 70's)
Pulse Generator - 310 ohms
Exciter Coil - 80v peak
Pulse Generator - 1.2v peak
I figured I'd put other machines in here as I get to mess around with this. Peak voltage is a special reading and requires a special adapter for the multi-meter. If you have one and don't mind posting your specs it would be atleast super interesting to see what the numbers are on other engines (ohms and peak volts paired together). I did build the tester adapter myself, ugly as hell right now, but once I get my project/prototyping boards in I'll post a pic of it. Of course this partly stems from the CDI talk in the thread linked below. Figured the measurements could be useful for others too, so broke this out into a separate thread.
