I believe that even the 83's had an offset bearing carrier, so you just need to loosen it , and turn it... I think thats how it's done?

I don't have my 83-4 anymore so I can't look. Just wondering if they have the bolt in the middle between the 2 pinch bolts like on my 86. The carrier is egg shaped so moving it forward will tighten then loosen same as going backwards. Keep an eye on chain tension when adjusting. I use spanner wrench.

... don't forget to loosen the middle "stopper" bolt as well when tightening it.
