What is tbe purpose of the gold anodized finish you see on tbe older tubes and parts? Why didn't the Maker's of the old tube frames offer those in other colors?

I believe what you're referring to is yellow zinc plating, which resists corrosion. Anodizing is done on aluminum.

So are you saying that the finish that you see on aluminum cases and covers are actually anodized and not paint?
I've never seen a cover anodized. Anodizing is on wheels from the factory, the axles and hardware were zinc plated and engine cases and covers were painted.

So are you saying that the finish that you see on aluminum cases and covers are actually anodized and not paint? From the factory, most aluminum engine cases are cast aluminum, which doesn't anodize very nicely, so they are painted. Billet aluminum aftermarket engine cases & covers will frequently be anodized.
