I think its 95 according to the serial number.

I have one,,never rode it.. Keep hoping to shove life out of the way long enough too. Hasn't happened yet. I have a very strong hunch mine needs rebuilt . The frame Im using has some pin holes in the lower cradle tubes.I will have to cut them out and make new ones.The rest of the frame is in great shape.259917

Anyone have a cdi,coil or wire harness for a cr 500r for sale.

I cut the frame and got the top and pivot bolt portion mocked up.The FMF pipe fits pretty well.Need to start measuring and bending frame rails.260086260087

What did you guys with 500r trikes do about the space between the pivot bolt and engine case.260128

Just an adapter sleeve made on a lathe I'd assume unless these guys have a trick??

I did some digging on the serial numbers and I believe this motor is an 85 not 95.The coolant spigot on the cylinder is on the back for 85 and the front for 95. 90 cr500r motor.260268

Awesome thread so far! I am doing an 85 motor into an 85 R frame. I will be very interested on how you do your frame mods, bushings, engine mounts, etc. That is the main thing holding me back from starting on my project.

Have you had the water pump open yet? Mine was so corroded I had to buy a new side cover and water pump assembly. The later model side cover will work, but now I need different coolant hoses. And so begins the proverbial opening of the can of worms...

I havent done much to it in a few weeks.I made some bushing to take up some slop in the rear pivot bolt. I do need to grind alittle more off the frame.Im trying to figure out what route to go on the cdi. One thought is whole new 01 cr 500r cdi ignition or new 07 cr 250r setup.I hear mixed reviews on the hpi and service honda ignition. I havent checked the water pump yet.Im going to pull the flywheel and check stator to see if its oem 85 or maybe newer.

Anyone have a 01 cr 250r ignition system they would sell or 85 500r cdi and coil. In a few months Im going to have a friend of my sister fab and weld my lower frame. Also looking for a decent pipe.

I found an 85 cr500 cdi,coil,wire harness and kill switch on ebay and bought it.It should be here next week. I paid less the $200 for it.I would like a newer 250 cr ignition but even the older ones like late 80s early 90s are going for over $500.Couple months ago I bought a newer 2 piece clutch cover it was cheap on ebay like $60 or so new.I bought a used oem outer cover from a 250 cr .Hopefully I can get something more done on this build this spring in time for drag racing.Still trying to find an exhaust for it couple on ebay but are pretty beat up for price.

I got my cdi and wiring in the mail today.I hooked it up on the motor and it has spark.
