View Full Version : '85 125M not charging

I have a 125M that is no longer charging. I've got between 4.5 and 7 volts at the battery when running in neutral, holding the throttle to get it up off idle.

So either the voltage regulator or stator are toast, probably the stator, but I would like to confirm before I try to source one.

I've done the test procedure in the manual, but it doesn't make sense to me. It only includes a test for the stator, not the regulator, and the directions are misleading. It says I should have low resistance in one direction, open circuit in the other direction, for each "pair" of wires. Doesn't say what the pairs are, but shows a test between a yellow and green.

If that were true, that means the diodes are in the stator, I would have thought they were part of the regulator, and therefore continuity would be the same in both directions for the test of the stator? The wiring diagram is simplified and doesn't show the rectifying portion of the circuit.

Does anyone have a test procedure or values for the 125m stator or charge circuit?

Also, I haven't looked yet myself, but is there a decent source for replacement, or do I have to look for used?

Thanks for any help.
