who gets titles for their trikes?

in AZ, we need ohv sticker to ride on state or blm land. Of course you need a plate to get the sticker and you can't get a plate unless you have a title. Plus its easier to sell a trike if you have a title, because the next owner doesn't have to jump thru the hoops to get a title.
Just curious if anyone else goes thru the hassles. I just had a 185s 110 and a atc70 inspected.
the bond costs $50 a trike, inspection is 25 for the 1st a d $5 each there after, then there's the fee to start the bonded title i think is 3 bucks and 15 for the title.
Peice of mind when the ranger pulls up and asks if the atc is papered.....

I've got papers for my R and the wife's TRX 200, and plan to go through the process of getting them for the X as soon as the DMV opens back up. I do 99% of my riding on private land but here in NY it's all we have as proof of ownership so it's worth it for the piece of mind.

In California everything gets a title. No title =No transfer of ownership, no license sticker, no riding "legally".

oh and thanks to the kung flu. dmv now only takes appointments. so I ask how soon for a late appt? next Thursday. Okay I show the guy the 4 inspection sheets and he says they only do 2 things per appt. And I can't get 2 appt on the same day. so I go on Thursday to do 2 and then I go back on Friday for the next 2. jim

I haven't titled one, but may if intending to sell.

In Arkansas:

(B)(i) If the three-wheeled or four-wheeled all- terrain cycle was manufactured on or before
December 31, 1992, then proof of ownership shall not be required to obtain registration,
and a statement of ownership shall be accepted as proof of ownership.
(ii) The statement of ownership may be prepared by the person and shall contain the
following information:
(a) The person's name;
(b) A description of the cycle;
(c) A statement that the cycle was manufactured on or before December 31, 1992;
(d) A statement of ownership; and
(e) The person's signature.
(c) The cost of registration shall be five dollars ($5.00).


I'm not 100% certain that means the owner will receive a paper title, I'll have to look into it more, but the owner does get a registrations sticker to put on the vehicle.

I title all my trike and atvs. PA is easy.

Bill of sale - state provides affidavid for this on their DCNR site
Take that to notary - Pay few bucks to have it signed.
Fill out title application $22.50 plus whatever you paid for the toy per the bill of sale. Supply photo or paper traced copy of VIN number.

Send it in, wait a few weeks get a title.

Just really pointless to buy things with out titles now days with many of the riding areas wanting insurance so you need a title etc. The old stuff before 1992 didnt have alot of titles. It was optional. I've never had an issue with a machine selling with a title...it just helps and brings a different type of people to your house when selling.

Nj doesn't title atvs or dirtbikes, only car, trucks and motorcycles get titles.

Run the vin thru ncib online for free to see if it is stolen, then get a title/registration from Vermont via mail. It takes around 5 weeks to get it back from them.

Something that should be mentioned, is personal property taxes, who and who doesn't have to pay them on vehicles.

Paying yearly taxes on a low value vehicle that isn't even street legal makes as much sense as paying yearly taxes on a riding mower.


Who pays their one time fee and nothing else?
Who pays every year to ride around on their own property?

title costs like 15 bucks in az, 50 for the bond. the plate is a few bucks but its one time for a offroad type trike. the ohv is a yearly cost for the sticker. jim

Boy I wish some of those cheap costs were available north of the border!
In Alberta, I need:
a) A bill of sale
b) Proof of Insurance (~$100.00 per machine)
c) A yearly $55.00 sticker for the plate from the motor vehicles branch

Now X that by the 13 machines I own and I'd be broke. I only licence and insure the 4 that I use the most. Luckily, we have so much area to ride, you never run into the fish cops. When I ride through the city I definitely play by the rules, could get expensive!

We even took a chance and crossed the border with unregistered machines when we went to Trikefest 15, we got lucky the Canadian border guard wasn't a tool upon returning.

talked to a 3rd party title company. for $100 each they do all the legwork. then the bond is $50 each. so $600 to get 4 titles. It's a 1 time shot, get them all done and be done with it. Around here, the last hard tail I sold, I think i got 400 bucks and it was a 250 big red. last 185/200 was 300 bucks both without titles. my 84 110 might bring 300 on a good day here, maybe 350 with a title. the 185s might be a 300 to 350 dollar trike locally with a title. But, its nice to have papers where we go ride. Main thing I am getting papers on is my 71 ct70. jim

At least the CT70 is street legal.

I've got two dual sport motorcycles that I pay to keep licensed and insured, and can ride where I want, including state OHV trails without additional mumbo-jumbo. If I could do the same with the trikes, I'd spend the money. Lots of good riding, but I need the legal ability to ride short stints of pavement to get to it.

If you don't renew Your ATV's in California (every 2 years) they go into penalties. You can put them on "non operation" status ,but you can't use them while on non op, and it costs money to put them on non op anyway. If you get caught riding a vehicle when its on non op status you have to pay all back registrations plus penalties that can go as high as 140% per year.

At my other home in Montana I don't have any ATV's there yet. But a truck I bought here in California was going to cost me $500 to register every year. I took it to Montana and it was $240 life time. I never have to pay again.
I look forward to leaving California every day.

There are so many better places and easier places to live than California.... I dream of leaving all the time.

But every time I get close to pulling the trigger I whimper out.. My whole life is in this state.... I was born here, grew up here, family and friends are here, kids here...... a whole lifetime of memories here. I tell myself...."I can always come back to visit and park the RV at this family members house or that family members house"........but it's not the same.

25 for the yearly ohv sticker.
got the ball rolling on 2 of the trikes, (only 2 transactions per dmv appt).
Going to pay the title company $100 and let them do the work on the bonded title for my ct70, that one needs a certified letter sent to the last registered address. No big deal, just trying to avoid more trips to the post office, dmv etc. jim
