Hi Everyone. I have a 1983 Honda 200X my dad bought brand new. I have been having a hard time keeping it idling. Carb has been cleaned and rebuilt. I suspect the manifold piece that connects the carb to the head. It’s got a rubbery part that flexes. I saw a small crack. Is there an aftermarket or knockoff that would work? I saw some that said they work for the 200s or 200m. Is the 200x that much different? Anyone have an idea? Thank you for any and all help. I have been attempting to add a picture but seem to be having some issues.

I think that the ones for the other 200's are different since they have no rear suspension. The crack in yours may not go all the way through. mTry spraying it with some carb cleaner while the engine is idling. If there's no change in engine speed, the crack doesn't go all the way through.

The carb is also bot centered on that machine, it sits off to the left. If it is just a crack, epoxy's and glues have come along way. It would be worth a shot to try and epoxy the crack, just take your time, read the directions, make sure it is for plastic and rubber, and ok to be near gas.
remember nothing fits like the original part.

Another thing i have done on these, its not super great looking but works.... Take it off the motor and clean it really good, some brake clean or acetone on the outside of it to get it nice and clean. Then get some liquid electricians tape, put a coat around it, let it dry a while, put another coat around it and let it dry. This will just help seal up any small cracks. Then get a roll of self amalgamating tape, i like to use Scotch 23 rubber splicing tape, it has a liner that peels off one side. You just peel the liner off and wrap it, overlapping about half the width of the tape on each wrap, do a couple layers of that, then let it be for a bit. That stuff self amalgamates into a solid rubber sleeve and its amazing stuff. They use it for underground cable splicing. And i have used it for outdoor connections for 20 odd years, its amazing, you can come back and slice down the side of it and peel it off like a formed rubber boot and everything inside is as new as it was the day you put it on. It's really good bonding to the liquid electrical tape as well, more so then rubber, so thats why i do the two layer approach.

Of course now it looks like the 200 intakes are available cheap from China, but years back this is how i fixed a lot of cracked intakes before these aftermarket ones were available. Some of the ones i fixed i still have access to, friends i sold them to, and they still haven't replaced them because they are still working!
