The clutch adjuster lock nut on my 1984 ATC 200S is frozen. I can still turn the flat head screw, but not without the lock nut moving too. The shifter has a bit more play in it than I'd like, but it isn't slipping yet. I know I can get a new adjuster and nut, but is there a good fix that I don't know about? I searched the forum for similar problems, but could only find it where the adjuster itself was stuck. Am I correct in thinking that I won't be able to remove the clutch side engine cover if I can't remove the lock nut?:wondering

No, you can pull the cover without taking that nut off. All it holds is the fulcrum point of the clutch arm. It's a mild nuisance to pull it, clean off old gaskets and do it right.....but worth EVERY minute of your extra time.

Just my 2¢ and with current inflation rates....that ain't worth much.

Thanks for the input! I feel a lot more confident about that oil change and top end rebuild now that I know I can get to the oil rotor:D One more thing.. In my owner's manual it says you need to remove the right foot peg to get the clutch cover off with the motor installed. Is this really necessary? Thanks!

Removing the right foot peg gives you more room to work with, could you do it without removing it, yes, but it causes less clearance a bit of wiggling and cussing. The foot peg comes off super easy so its worth the few minutes it takes to pull that off. Generally when i go into the right side to do an oil rotor cleaning i just remove the foot peg so its quicker.

kbOnly is correct, remove the right side foot peg first, for me it isn't so much taking the right side cover off that foot peg is in the way, is being able to align the cover better for reassembly.
But honestly, if your going to take it off, spend $100 get a one way bearing, a clutch pack and springs (you will also need a 27mm socket), fresh oil, clean the pick up spring too. you would probably never need to go back in that side if you did all that. but, I understand budget repairs also.
Good luck and let us know how it goes.
