Hello,
I’m wondering what carbs have been successfully run on the first generation 200X, there are physical limitations to how big a carb can be mounted inside the frame tubes. I’m specifically curious about flatslide carbs, I know the XR200 round slide 26mm carb will fit; but what about a TM24 or TM28 pumper or something similar? Thanks!

DG sells a 27mm Keihin for the 200X. It bolts right on--no fitment issues. I put one on my 83 and it runs great. Mickey Dunlop at Four Stroke Tech also sells carbs for the 200X. He has them up to 30mm. I don't think the flat slides will work. The frame is very narrow at the top.

Thanks for the reply, I inquired with DG about 4 months ago about their 27mm carb and the rep I spoke to said it had been long discontinued. In fact, as I recall, the only 200X products they offer now are the aluminum grab bar and the steel exhaust system.

I’ve seen Mickeys 30mm carb with the clear bowl. It appears most people run the round slide carbs on the 200X.

I am not opposed to that but I’d love to open up the potential of the 230 motor with a flat slide carb.

I’ll do some research on XR200 carb swaps too, it appears they run the carb between the frame tubes like to 200X as opposed to the CRF230 which runs the carb outside the main frame tube.

Back in the day a 28mm mikuni flat slide worked great .
It requires an aftermarket intake manifold which are pretty hard to come by .
It’s a tight fit and a little trimming on the upper corners of the carb is needed for fitment .

Perfect, exactly what I was looking for. If a custom manifold worked to graft a TM28 pumper onto a stock 200X motor there’s a chance I may be able to make it work on my 230 motor. One issue will be the taller height of the head due to the 230’s longer stroke. But, if I have to make my own manifold I may be able to work around that with the angle anyway! Flange style spigot mounts are easy to come by for the TM28, it would just be a matter of making an aluminum manifold to graft the spigot mount to the head. Thanks for the information!

Any pictures of the 28 Mikuni installed, or the unobtainium manifold would be greatly appreciated!

Hey man I was reading your post. I have a CRF230 engine in my first gen 200X. What carb and intake did you end up going with? Thanks

I went with a Mikuni TMR-28 carb, it’s been modified by Yoshimura and has some custom guts that Yoshimura designed. The frame hoop had to be cut and reoriented to accommodate a carb this large. The intake manifold is a custom 3d printed job.

I’d suggest a PWK carb like many of the CRF230F guys have had good success with. I even toyed with the idea of a Chinese Nibbi brand clone carb.

What carb are you using presently?
