84 200x lights not working

any help in trouble shooting the lack of lights on a 84 200x would be of great help. the bike starts and runs fine but no lights. it seem the alternator has two seperate coils, one for the spark and one for the lights? how do i test the light output before the switch? someone posted the wires are prone to breaking. where do i look? are bothe the wires comming out of the stator used for the lights? where is the ground on the frame.
thanks for the help. the bike is an hour away and i would like to be prepared before i get there.

Welcome to 3wheelerworld. To test the lighting coil check the continuity between the white/yellow wire (the connection is on the left side by the frame) and ground, as long as there is continuity the coil is good. Remember to check the bulbs, they are the most common problem. Hope this helps.
