What the stuck ?

Starting my auto x project went to pluck the engine off an 83 200 I had lyin' around, for a while. Seems the engine mount bolts are stuck, real stuck. The bottom one and the one in the rear of the engine. Anyone been down that road and care to share some tips ? I warmed them up a bit beat them up a bit, Anyone had any luck before I try and cut them and not hurt the engine or the frame ??? :wondering

I guess it's that time of the year, people are starting their projects and finding frozen parts that didn't thaw after winter.

Same old suggestions about heat, penetrate, and patience. If they'll spin, trying to walk them out with an impact can work. May have to lightly tap on the end with a hammer while trying to walk it back.

I know people suggest heat, an you understand this, but a lot of times it takes higher heat than a propane torch can produce, when parts are really locked together. I wouldn't want to apply that much heat to aluminum engine parts though, just steel frame and suspension parts.

The one thing I don't suggest very often is an air hammer, simply because good ones are expensive and many people don't have the setup to support the more powerful hammers. Those cheap hammers are nearly worthless, only good for very light work. A good air hammer is much more effective than swinging a large hand hammer. The high frequency of strikes can get stuck parts moving when a hand hammer just smashes them.

Most recently, I used an air hammer to easily remove the cone washers from a pair of Aisin locking hubs. Doing it any other way would have taken way more time and possibly damaged parts, and there were already plenty of damaged parts on that job. A short brrrp on the end of the studs and the cones spat out.

One bit I don't have is with a recessed end, that'll hold itself on a bolt end, so it doesn't go bouncing off. An air hammer just isn't a tool I use that much, but when I need it, it's a serious time and hand saver. I probably use them the most when replacing suspension and steering parts on passenger vehicles.

I have a good Matco air hammer and a compressor was going to try that as a last resort. As I figured it would probably wreck the bolts at least.And I had hoped to reuse them, It seems they are stuck in the engine itself not the metal sleeves. So i was kinda leery about the heat thing also. Also have an impact wrench but was not sure if it would crack the cases trin to spin it. Thanks for the reply i'll keep at it and hope for the best,it's not supposed to be easy after all,right ?
