I brought my case and crank. in to a local Yamaha dealer to have them replace the crank. bearings. Oh, it is a 1984 Yamaha YTM 200 chain drive. They said that it would end up being $60, parts and labor, I figured that wasn't bad so I said sure. After 3 weeks (they said it would be 1-2) I called and they said that the side with the cam chain gear could not be replaced without replacing that half of the crank.:thmbsdwn: Has anyone else replaced their crank. bearings? It seems wierd that the bearings can't be replaced without spending $120 on the crank. half.

I think that's a lie. That gear should slide off, then you can pull the crank out and switch the bearings.

That is what it sounds like to me,They F'd it up and want you to pay for it.
I would take it somewhere differint than them to get a second opinion.

I have replaced the bearings and never had to replace the crank. My gut feeling is they did something to it and are trying to hang you with the bill. I would show up at the dealer ( suprize them ) and ask to see why they feel the crank needs to be replaced. Then Look for ANY damage. ;)

If you need a crank I may have one. ;)
