Hi all. My original cylinder on the T3 is all worn out now. I just dropped it off at Q&E Machine in Orange, CA. They have a 290 kit that will cost me the same as a regular bore. Anyone have any experience with big bores on Tecates? I'm looking for setup advice as far as carbs and jetting (stock carb?) Also has anyone used this shop? I understand that they handle the machine work for Pro Design. Thanks in advance......Todd

My Tecate has a Q&E big bore kit, I'm told by the original owner. I've heard lots of good things about them.

I have been freinds with Vance and his father for quite some time and they do GREAT work, defently get there port and polish done, they have many riding style ports to choose from, they did my 83R fire breather and that thing SCREAMS!!!!! hangs with Banshee's with T6's (3/4 throttle) and i havent broken it in yet.

Since this thread is a year and a half old, hopefully, he's made some kind of a decision by now!

Tecatemantodd, What year tecate do you have? As for the big bore is conserned you can do what you are doing or use the piston and rings from a kawi. js650 jet ski. If you use the 76mm piston it will be a 300cc if you use the connecting rod from the js it will be a 330cc. You will have to get the piston skirt trimmed down so it will clear the cases on the down stroke. Now about your 290 kit. What all does that include? Piston, rings and the machine work? I would love some info on this because I have another tecate engine I need to start working on also. Also what kind of $$ are you looking at if you don't mind telling me. Thanks

How does using the jet ski rod give you another 30cc's?

its longer
A longer or shorter rod alone will not change your cc's, you have to move the pin on your crank to do that.

Kinda funny that this was back up this year...lol. I did indeed make a decision and now have the big bore on there. I still need to do more work though. I'd like to rebuild the crank I have on the shelf and install that before running it again. Mind you, the crank is still the original from 1986. Not too sure if it was rebuilt before I got it. Should have just handled it while it was apart the last time...mistake #1

I also put on a pwk38airstryker carb at the same time and it was jetted at sudco. I am not sure what jets I even have installed. Too many upgrades at once.....mistake #2

I'll get this thing worked out before too long, kawieriders.com is an informative place I recently stumbled across that looks really good for the tech stuff.

As far as your questions, 90nut I want to say I spent around 700 for the cylinder to be bored and resleeved, and new piston and some various other machine work..RideRed, i have a question for you....do you think it would be a good idea for me to check with Vance about tuning this once I rebuild the crank??
