WooHOO!!! Yeah, that's total sarcasm. The other day I went out and fired my Yamahauler up, and took it for a ride around. I stopped, and it had a funny engine sound at idle. I couldn't tell if the sound was still there as I drove, but I know at idle in neutral it was there, as well as idle in gear. I can't tell if it's coming from the top or the bottom end. But it almost sounds like something is turning, and supposed to be catching on something else but it's not. I noticed no difference in driving it. Just that sound when I stopped. It isn't that loud, you can hear it if you're standing around the trike, but it's not echoing out the exhaust or anything, just at the motor. Any ideas, or anything would be great! Thank you much! Also the trike in question is an 84 Yamahauler, 200cc, shaft drive.

is it like a ticking, or dinging? :?

Is it like a rubbing noise? My bigred has done this a few times but i just ride it away. It soon stops. Maybe it only does it when its cold?

It does it when it's warm or cold. I fired it up today and at first it didn't do it, but then it started. It is more of a clanging, or a rapping, almost. I guess you could call it a really loud, and somewhat longer of a duration ticking noise. But it sounds deeper than a tick, like a tick would be very short, like VERY short in duration, while this is a little bit longer, not seconds, but just not a small tick. :(

Sounds like a diffrent noise to mine. Mine sounded like it was coming from the sub-gearbox. It sounded like the gears were running in no oil.

 I had that problem too. It turned out it was the piston rings but u said it still runs fine so its not that :?:

If anyone has a Yamaha Warrior, or have heard someone trying to shift one from forward to reverse, or reverse to forward, and the shift isn't made right, there is what I think the same noise as the one that I am experiencing right now. Like I said though, it drives fine, still has compression, still shifts fine and everything, but I would just like to get this noise taken care of before I really damage anything.

ATCMATT - I noticed that too on my '83 Big Red that when cold there seems to be a rubbing noise from the bottom end. I just bought this machine and I don't know if it will do it in summer. How long has your Big Red been doing this for, should we worry?
