Yes, you read right, a Cherry Bomb, like the one you would put on a car.

Things used:

- A 2 1/4" Cherry Bomb muffler from the auto parts store.
- A 7/8" silicone exhaust coupler from the local hobby shop.
- 2, 1" clamps.
- A Briggs and Stratton 5-8hp muffler, gutted and cut in half. This is used to adapt the 1" header pipe pipe up to 2 1/4". I found this at Home Depot for $2.97.
- 1, 4" clamp to secure the muffler to the frame.
- A 2 1/4" muffler clamp.

Total cost- $38.00.

I was a little worried about the noise at first, but really it's not all that loud. It has a nice LOW rumble to it, but it's not annoying. It's not even as loud as my buddy's stock Z400 quad. It even runs better also. In another thread I was having an idling problem and I was asking for help. It was always stalling at idle. No more stalling!!! Throttle response is much cleaner as well. I think my stock muffler was clogged up maybe.

Here's the pics:

Also known as Glass Packs, man those have got to be loud as he11. When we install then on trucks they are much louder than flowmaster mufflers and get louder as the fiber glass begines to burn away. I just noticed you have the long glass packs, they are not as loud, are those the 24" ones?

AwEsOmE!!!! Is it loud???

It's the 24".

I know, I don't like the hose thingy either, but, I don't own a welder. If I could have just welded it up, it would have looked 100% better.

It's really not that loud at all. I mean, it's noticable that it's not stock, but, it's not obnoxious like you would think.

Think of it this way: That muffler is designed to quiet down a V8 with 200 or more hp. The exhaust noise and flow that a little 1 cylinder puts out is easily kept quiet by it.

I'll know tonight for sure. I just packed it up and I'm heading to my Nephews property up north. I can't even ride it here. The cops will take it. I did take it for a little rip through first and second gear out in front of the house before I put it in the back of my truck. It felt A LOT stronger. I'll post results when I get back tomorrow night.

Now that is very interesting. :D I think I might try to do that on my 1981 ATC 200 cause my muffler is pretty much rusted away. Of course I have to get the engine running first  :D

Update!!!!

Ok, I just got back from up north and rode the snot out of it for 2 whole days. The little blue hose lasted about five whole minutes. It was fine at an idle and little revs, but as soon as I got some RPM going, it blew out.

I ran up to the local hardware store and got a 6" peice of 1" copper pipe. It held up fine, even after beating the crap out of it all day long. I went through a completely full tank in about 6 hours (Man I'm sore). I rode it again today for about 3 more hours and it's still completely fine.

Performance and sound:

The performance is great. I lost absolutely nothing on the bottom end and the top end of 4th gear and 5th gear picked up noticably. It runs alot better also, but, I'm comparing it to a 24 year old stock muffler, which was probably pretty clogged. It ran great the whole 2 days.
None of the neighbors complained about the noise, so, I guess it's OK. My brother in law works midnights and slept all day through it and it didn't wake him. I still say it's not as loud as you would think it would be. There's a lot of muffler there for such a small engine.

Hmmmmm..........I just figured out a way to make it darn near as quiet as stock.

I took the other half of the Briggs muffler and shoved it in the rear off the Cherry Bomb. It reduces the outlet down to 1". The sound level just about cut in half. It still runs the same and revs just as fast. I can't do any actual driving/testing until I go back up north on Easter.

OK, that is cool on your 3-wheeler, and good job on it! Just for S & G I thought id share this with you guys.... i have a 1973 arctic cat puma snowmobile, and the stock mufflers are know to break off where the intake goes in....so I got sick of brazing and put on a cherry bomb, lol. I used inch and a half steel galvenized pipe and welded the "ball joint/pivot joint" thing that connects to the headers to give it a little movement to a piece of the inch and a half pipe, it sounds really good and power increased dramatically...but i got a 100 arctic cat zr600 efi so I dont ride it any more, but it sounded like a BEAST! lol hope u enjoyed.... lol
