SOmething wierd going on.....

Pulled my ATC350X Parts Manual out. It has 2 pages that decode the serial numbers.

JH3 - Honda All terain vehicle (Manufactured in Japan)
JH2 - Honda Motorcycle (Manufactured in Japan)

I'm pretty sure this is not just an American manual, because it lists codes for bikes built in like 8 other countries.

The part about the year is later in the vin, as I typed earlier.

85 vin is JH3TE080*FM000001 <-- 1st 85

86 vin is JH3TE080*GM000001 <-- first 86

an '87' should be JH3TE080*HM000001 <-- first 87 as if...

JH3 - ATV made in Japan
TE080 - Atc350X product code
F thru H Model Year (85 thru 87)
M - Hamamatsu Factory in JAPAN
000001 Manufacturing sequence serial number.

The even stranger part is the vin that packhamstruck PMed me to checkout, H2MC120XXXXXXXXX the first 6 digits do not show up anywheres in my hondaline identification guide. The closest thing there is, is JH2MC130XXXXXXX Which is for an 83 CM250 motorcycle.

I have owned/worked on literally 100's of ATC's over the years, and I never remember any of the VINs starting with anything but JH3. EVEN the 2 1987 200x's I and my brother had started with JH3. The year code is further into the number and is a letter not a number. I'll check out my frames and let you know which one it is. Could just be an assembly line error......

'85 Japan spec 200X

TR05-1400xxx

JDM trikes do not have "JH#" in the VIN.

I made this little picture up for my web site. I think it helps with figuring out this VIN's.
