well I went ridding yesterday at fingerlakes here in missouri and the R ran pretty good all day until the end of the day when I was just about to go up a steep hile and I hit second gear and gased it and It just died on me. I wasnt sure what happened so I rolled down the hill backwards and tried to start it it took a while and then it fired up again then I was just driving a level ground and hit second and gased it and it died on me again. I kicked it over for a while and then just gave up on it. I checked to make sure that gas was getting to the carb and it was, the plug is a day old and Im running 32:1 oil/gas ratio and it wasnt smoking much at all. so i dont think it was the plug. we left shortly after that and I havnt had much of a chance to look over it. I thought maybe it was the reeds or carb. I just bought it a while back never looked at the carb or reeds. what might it be? would bad reeds cause it to do this? I thought that bad reeds would make it rev up higher and dont know much about the carb. I thought maybe it needed to be cleaned? anyone have any ideas?
thanks

Have you checked the plug? I had my 250R carb out of adjustment and I had the same thing happen. The plug on mine was real black and cruddy. I putin a new plug and it fired right up. If this is the case your carb is in need of being adjusted properly.

sounds like a plug to me, 32:1?,,, man.,, what kind of oil are you using?, i'm running 50:1 with AMSOIL.., also, make your using a BR8ES spark plug if you gona be mixing that rich..., are you just using cheap oil? if your runnin some good oil, then try 50:1 and get a new spark plug., oil nowadays is alot better then it used to be,., running 50:1 now, or ever 70:1 (billy runs this im pretty sure) would equal like 20:1 like they reccomended back in the 80's. thats if you use GOOD oil (such as klotz, amsoil, blue marble, few other ones..), but if your running the cheap 1.99 quart oil from wal-mart, or havoline or some other bullcrap 2 stroke oil then you gotta mix rich..

Mixing 32:1 is fine alot of people run that. Check your plug.

What was it doing before the end of the day? Was it running fine, hesitating, bogging down? Heres what I would do. Drain all the gas, pull the petcock and clean the screen, pull the carb and clean it, pull the plug and look it over and replace if it ain't right. While you have the carb off, look into the reed cage and see if you have any broken reed petals. Reassemble with fresh gas and oil and see what it does.

Just some ideas. Where in Missouri are you? I'm close to Rolla.

I was running just fine and then it just died. but ever since I had it (only about a month) 1-3 gear lacked in powerband power, but 4-6 tons. Now Im not sure what they are suppose to run like (first ever 2stroke) I just figured thats how they are. Are the gears first 1-3 kind of lack in power or is that something else. when i say lack in power i just mean it doesnt pull as much as it does 4-6 but still fast. but when it died it was running just running like it allways does and it was instant. I first thought I was out of gas. but dont know I think I will go through the carb because it probably needs cleaning. It ran good enough for me to beat my friend on his 85 suzuki quadracer Lt250r on the mx track.

I live in montgomery County. It is about in between columbia and st. louis. But I go to school at CMSU in warrensburg mo. So i only get to ride sometimes on the weekends.

i run hp2 @ 50:1......runs great.....it will eat your buddies lt250r for breakfast , lunch and dinner....without even trying....but like the other guys said ...you can run just about any ratio you want, todays oils are far superior to the old days stuff , i even heard of guys running 100 to 1..its all about jetting and unless you want to risk melting your piston i would find someone who knows what they are doing....good luck,
greg

Hey, I'm originally from Pike county, only 30 minutes from Montgomery City. My parents still live there, thats where I keep my 350X.

Another thing I'd check is all your electrical connections. My buddy has a 350X that we kicked and kicked on. Finally checked for spark and then found the loose connector.

I run 32:1 and the only time I have foul a plug is when I let it sit for a long time but if I run it every few days its fine

Same thing happened to my R. I was running it fine and then it died on me. I would kick and kick and get it to sputter and sometimes spark. then and as soon I would give it gas to get going it would shut off. I took it home and checked all kinds of things. It turned out be the plug connection to the wire coming off of the coil. I recut the wire and put it back on and have had no problems since. I run 32:1 with Castrol 927. I use a B7ES plug. I have never foul'd one and it runs fine. This was all on the recommentdation of an expert mechanist. He set up my jets and needle positon, too. He used to race R's and knew what he was talking about. Hope some of this helps

thats cools I just sold my 350X and let me tell you there is a world of difference between the 350x and the 250r. I have had some time adjusting between the two. the 350 is a great trail macine with all the torque and the 250 is a speed machine. I just hope that I dont wreck it because it is in great shape. It is a great feeling when I can beat my friends on there 250 lt suzukis on the mx track
