Look at this crap....this is how slow a 9 year old computer with dialup is   :x
I think I'm going to spend my money on a new computer and cabel internet instead of a quad to build up :(
Oh...BTW: I'm only connected at 4800bps instead of regular 56,000bps (yes...4800  )

But if you get cable you will need to upgrade your computer. Because your computer is so old it will bottleneck the cable internet and it wont seem to go that fast.

I don't know how much you know about computers, but there are several things you can do to optimize your current setup - at least until you get new hardware/connection. E-mail me and I will tell you how to dramatically improve what you have.

what a trailprotrailprotrailprotrailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro.....trailprotrailpro gonna spend money on a computer instead of a four wheeler. If trailprotrailpro gonna do that trailprotrailpro arse should get banned from this forum. I think everybody would agree with me if they had money they sure as hell wouldn't pick spendin it on a computer over a bike. Heres some advice.....go buy u that quad that u were wantin, build er up then run that piece of stuff computer that u got over with it. See how she runs after that. That should solve trailprotrailpro computer problem. Peace out
:? .....Yes, I AM going to spend my money on a computer.
#1- I already have a decent fourwheeler
#2- I spend a lot of time online on these forums, and doing research for school
#3- Speaking of school, I'm entering my Senior year in High School and will NEED this computer for College.
#4- I will have a job this summer, so I can get a quad/trike and build it the way I want then
...who's the dumbarse now ;)

4800 is extremely slow but,,,,you can not get 56k out of a phone line, they max out around 43k- 46k , your modem may be 56k already, how old is your computer? most models are 56k ready, you just gotta feed em a 56k cable hook up....good luck

bbechtel16...I was thinking about this one... http://www.alienware.com/Configurator_Pages/area-51.aspx?SysCode=PC-AREA51&SubCode=SKU-PERFORMANCE
Or a Dell 8300 series
md1985250r...computer is about 8-9 years old.

I wouldn't buy a Dell if I were you. They aren't all they're cracked up to be. As for Alienware, awesome systems, but not a very great value. On the high end of the spectrum or w/e, I think Gateway is a good choice. If you want something cheap that doesn't suck, I like the eMachines overall. Also remember the processor speed on a new computer is pretty much irrelivant anymore, pay more attention to other specs and features. Hope this helps....

dont get a gateway, i got several people that say they have been nothing but problems. i personally have owned an emachine and dont recomend that piece of crap either. right now i am using a dell dimension 2400. it is pretty new , but so far i like it alot and it is dells bargain basement model, basically. never heard of alienware but it sounds good. i personally would go with the dell , 8300 you said, that thing has got to be incredible!!!

Yes, I have noticed that they get pricey pretty quick. :? :D
My mom told me the other day that she would come up with about half the money for one, so my price range is about $1500. I can get more on the dell for that price, but the upgradeability of the Alienware is unmatched. (nor is the looks)
I was also leaning toward the Alienware, because they can put AutoCAD on the system when I buy it (I am currently taking CAD classes and plan to do more in college) instead of paying another $700-$900 for the software to download on the Dell.

You also might want to check out Monarch Computers at http://www.monarchcomputer.com/
They have a nice budget system here: http://www.monarchcomputer.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=M&Product_Code= 90218
I would recommend upgrading the RAM 512, adding an OS (unless you have one you want to use at home), and extending the warranty to 3 years (only $50 more).
You might also want to check out Systemax. I think that's spelled right. If I were you I wouldn't blow $1,500 on a computer, it just isn't worth it. If you have any interest in building your own (the best option) check out www.amdmb.com, great resource. You might even find someone near you on there who would be glad to build one for you (for a small fee ;) ) .

I had a 133 mhz 64 mb memory computer from '97 when I got cable and it was pretty good for the internet. The reason I went with a 2.0 ghz with 1 gb memory is that I wanted to play around with my new digital camcorder/ premiere. The old one just wouldnt hold even one second of the movie. All I had to do was call the cable co. and they provide the network card to make it work. Its free and I get to keep it if I decide to cancel the service. Not to mention I already have cable in my room but no phone line. Oh, yeah. It seems everyone thats going to call in or out does so when I'm online too so it avoids that problem.
