Anyone ever had any luck using a timing light on a two stoke (getting power from a car battery)? Also, would there be a downside to running a hotter plug than is spec'ed per the manufacturer eg. b8es vs. b7es. thanks in advance ---Joe 8)

If you dont switch plugs I would suggest running a 1/4 inch reed spacer. I used to never be able to start my T3 with my B9ES plug in it. Then I installed a reed spacer I made, moved the needle up 2 clips to make up for all the extra air being let into the engine. Now it fires up all the time with the B9ES.

How is the engine getting 'extra air' with the addition of a reed block spacer?

The reed spacer goes between the reed cage and the cylinder. So it moves the cage back 1/4 of an inch. With the cage back that much further it increases the velocity of fuel/air mixture entering the cylinder.
