Hi,

I am wondering about what the options are when you lose the key to your 3 wheeler. I have an 1986 250es which I only have one key for. If you lose it what are the options? Can you go to a honda dealer and get a new one made? Or are you stuck with "hot wiring" or getting a new ignition?

I ask because I lost my only key thursday and just found it today. I thought I was going to have to wiring it for no key, but I don't like not having the extra secutiry, not to mention the steering lock!

Thanks,

broook

I sugest you go and get another couple of keys cut while you have the original to copy off. They don`t have to be Honda keys. Any key blank that will go in the ignition can be cut to work. The older Toyota and some Hyundi and various others that are double sided will work. Cost is a couple of dollars each compared with the outlandish prices the dealer will charge you. If you get stuck I can get you some key blank #s.

For sure! I am definitely doing that. I just am wondering what my options were if I had lost it (in which I gave up hope until my girlfriend found it! (god love her)) :o)

You can go to a place like American Lock and Key. Take the switch off and they can take it apart and get the Honda code. Then they can make a key. Costs about 25 bucks, but it is an option. They made one for my 250sx and it worked fine.

Go to your local Honda dealer and buy a couple of blank keys for your threewheeler, then go to a local hardware store that has a manual key machine and have them cut it for you.

.....it's right on the steering column. You use your key to turn it, and a (roughly) 1/4" pin goes up through your handle bars. Very neat and I've also never seen it before this bike.

Wish I had digital camera to get a pic!

it looks stock to me!

My 85 sx doesn't have it, nor does my brothers 250es, or my cousins 250es. Not sure on their years though.

Anyone else know the details on this? What year and models have one?

Two of my 85 250sx's have the stock steering lock. The third one has the place for it, but it it gone. It does not look very strong, I think if a trike was locked, you could grab the bars and break the lock. Ill try to get a pic later.

Both my 86 250es`s have them. They are located on the left hand side on the stem unlike motorcycle locks that are part of the ignition lock
