hi i have searched through the forums and looked on quadpit.com and theres 2 questions i have about the tri z wrench report:

1. does phase two loose loads of low end? or does it gain loads or low end power? quad pit says"any low end grunting force compleatly vanashes" this could be read either way?

2. wonce i have done the mods are there any problems i will come accross like very reduced engine life ect..?
thx

I rode an 85 with phase 2, LRD pipe and a K&N clamp on and you were either in the powerband or in the way. :D If you hit a hill in the wrong gear or missed a shift it would just about stop. A different pipe might have helped the low end but I don't think that much. Remember, Yamaha sent that report out to racers to help them compete. If all you are running is on a track with like 18" rear tires it should be fine

anytime you raise the exhaust port that much you lose low end,you really have to use the clutch and throttle more in the woods, but one an open field comes ,look out!!it pulls so much harder from mid range to top end,(dg pipe and silencer)i had my head milled down .50mm.,but no more,i didnt want too much compression and and start blowing fuel pump diaphrams or head gaskets

I'm also doin the phase 2 on my Z. I guess i'll have to use a DG pipe seems thats about all you can get.Are you guess using the 38mm carb?I got a new one and jetting already done.Just need a intake boot for a IT250.Hope she rips

How can you have it jetted already if it hasn't been ran on the machine? Also....Tri-Z_Brian said that the stock boot can be scretched to fit the 38, just put a blow dryer on it and warm it up and slowly but easily expand it onto the carb.

Oh ok right on......that's just a baseline jetting, you will have to tinker with it I'm sure. Good luck and let us know how it turns out! :D

If my memory serves. The stage one of the wrench report is how the Z should have come off the showroom. All the mods made for a much stronger machine everywhere. My race bikes (85 and 86) started life as stage 2's and then progressed to what probably theoretically anyway could be called a stage three. This included a powervalved YZ top end. I really don't remember the specifics. I do know the power valve made a much stronger machine than the stage 2 with a much more forgiveing powerband with less of the light switch effect. My play machines were stage one motors. Which in my humble opinion made for great trail machines. From woods to big hills to open areas. A great motor for a novice to expert for all kinds of riding. Man ! Pipes are still a debate. I liked Bassani and Klemm Research. I never had a chance to try an LRD. Pro Circuit was another okay pipe in the day. I heard from several people that CRF was a good pipe (never tested one ) I even had a guy make a custom pipe for me. That was a mistake. LOL As for 250R's. They had an awesome handleing frame with great suspension off the floor. They were strong motors that held up well. I just found them to be a bit cramped fro my fat ass. The Z always felt the most comfortable and could be made into an excellent handleing machine with great suspension. The las gen of the Tecates were probably the pinnacle of Three Wheelers. Off the Showroom floor they were fast with good suspension and very good handleing. With some attention paid they were incredible. I always felt cramped on em as well though. I often wonder what they would have become by the early 90's. I know the quadracer was the way they were going, but ya gotta wonder what a 1993 Tri-Z would have been or a 250R would have evolved into.

Just boil some hot water and dip the carb boot in and push it on to your carberator... I will fit!

You WILL have to play with the jetting!!! Golden Brown is the key!

Phase 2 of the wrench report is SWEET as said before you will have to use the cluch and gas a little more but YAHOOOOOOO!!! you will love it!!! Shave the head 50mm also, and hang on baby!!! :)
