View Full Version : New Toy
I just got my layoff from the plant. I worked 39 12 hour nites in a row, throw in 2 weeks of preoutage before the 39. I made a ton of cash in a short time.
I went to the dark side! I picked up my 2004 Kawi Prairie 700 on friday!! The thing is bad! The dealer was shocked when I wheelied it across his parking lot durring my test ride LOL. I put 40 miles on it on Sat, it won't go thru the mudd like the Polaris guys, but they can't pull the front up or powerslide thru the corners like me. My winch and skid plates go on on wed. I order a new front bumper on Monday AND I hope to get my KAWI LIME GREEN plastics ordered for it on monday too!!

I BLEW IT UP TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(MONDAY)
I put 34 more miles on it today, 34 miles AWAY from my house, went across a road and it DIED! I called the dealer (I was only 2 miles from it) and told them to COME GET IT!!! After about 1 hour I called the shop. The rocker arm bolts in the front cylinder were never installed, I rode it for 68 miles w/o bolts in the rockers??? They havent looked at the back cylinder yet. One valve stuck open filled somthing full of fuel, when it backfired it had enuff pressure to crack the front exhaust manifold and rip out the stud. I will find out about the connecting rod, valves, cam, ect..... tomarrow.
WISH ME LUCK

I believe that there was a very good article regarding the theory of "just haul azz from the begining" as the best way to break in a new motor. Any body remember the link?
It should be under full warranty regardless of how it was used since the shop admited it was faulty assembly.
Make sure to have them throw in some free accessories for your pain and suffering.
It is under warranty. I know they HAVE to fix it, But would you want to have a machine that has a rebuilt motor at 68 miles? Will the connecting rod fail early from it? How about the cam, rockers, valves? How long till a problem happens after the warranty is up? I keep my ATVs I was planning on having this for a LOOOONG time, now I am not sure about the internal posabilities.
I did ride it properly, I fallowed the dealer instructions for break in. They did not assemble it rite, not my fault. If I was harder on it it would have broke sooner w/o bolts in the rockers.
I will find out when I get to the dealer.

They should send ya a whole new bike because they were totally at fault, hope the connecting rod and crank didn't get warped or bent when the motor went out on ya. Tell them you want a new bike and she what come out of it. Good luck!

I would demand a new motor at least. paying full price for a new quad with a rebuilt motor is insulting your intelligence and I would let them know this. companys figure things like this already into the price of the quad. thats what they have those bean counters for. good luck with it.

that sucks...but you shouldda bought a trike
trikerider2oo7... I have 3 tecates(86s and 87), 2 350Xs, a 200s, a 200x, and my 225DR. I got alot of trikes. I got a quad because of the NYstate trail system issues. My riding group rides about 100 miles a weekend and more durring the week w/ nite rides and dayoff rides. A NEW trike would be my first choice but we all know what happened in 1987.
BACK THE THE 700!! I pick up my NEW Prairie 700 tomarrow or thurs. The dealer is going to switch out the quads. I get a new 1 and they have a demo quad to sell as such w/ a rebuild motor.
WISH ME LUCK

Where did you get it from, Action or the Kawie dealer in Fulton (can't remember the name)? I got my KFX from Action and so far its been good. Thats cool that they are giving you a new one. :beer
Action Motor Sports. I wouldn't buy a single washer for 1 cent from Thunder Alley. I have to drive further to Action too. They made it rite and I have no complaints about what they did for me.

Glad to hear they are being good eggs about it. I don't know if you have been here before or not, but seems to be a great place for info/advice and entertainment. www.kawieriders.com
