I'll try and explain this best as I can. I have a 84 YTM225DX that has a loose swing arm. I took it apart thinking bearings, but now I'm not sure. The bearings and races seem ok. What I discovered I think may be the problem. Where the swing arm goes in between the frame there is like a half inch gap. What I mean is if I put the swing arm up in where it mounts and put it all the way to one side there is a 3/8 to 1/2 inch gap between the swing arm and frame on the other side. Can any one tell me the inside to inside measurements of the frame where the swing arm mounts and the outside to outside measurement of the swing arm. I'm thinking the frame may be bent outward where the swing arm mounts or I have a defective swing arm. The frame being bent doesn't seem possible with a cross bar just above and below where the swing arm mounts. I see no cracks or signs of a reweld. Any help would be appreciated.

From what it looks like to me, the swing arm is 12" and the frame is 12.5" for the inside. If you are wondering if you have all of the parts, yamaha has a nice online parts guide. Look up the swing arm. Bascially there should be a bearing, oil seal, and pivot collar on each side between the swing arm and the frame.

Some one tried to rig it with taper roller bearings with races. Can you get me a bearing number off the bearing so I can go through a bearing dealer I know instead of Yamaha? Thanks Rod

We must have been replying at the same time. I was inquiring of the Older Fox. But, since you mentioned it, how much do you need for bearings, pivots and seals?
Hope u find a good one.Good luck :)

No I believe it is the bearings. I have the proper measurements. Some one put tapered roller bearings and races in it. From what I can tell they should be sealed roller bearings like rear axle bearings. I'm weighing my options right now and may have bushings made for it through a friend of mine who is a proffesor at a tech college machine shop.
