View Full Version : Looking to buy
Well, I don't have the money that you guys all seem to have, being married and having kids you know, but I'm getting there. Got $1,500 of seed money in my ATV account and plan to have another $1,000 by the end of the summer. Any thoughts on what I should be looking for? I ride trails almost exclusively. I really like the Scrambler 400/500s, but am willing to look at others at your suggestion. I was originally thinking about going with a utility model, but I've changed my mind about that. I need that maneuverability you get from a sport model. I do want 4X4 though.
Thoughts?

Yamaha Wolverine is a sporty 4x4.

I am, ofcourse, a huge fan of the monsterous power and plush ride of the mighty 400 2-stroke Scrammy's. You would be able to find a late model one in good shape for the $2500 - $3000 you are saving. I like Wolvies, and think they are a fun quad, but they arn't even in the same ballpark as the Scrammys in terms of Horsepower (18 vs 37), suspension, hop up potential, top speed, acceleration and 4x4 capability. Also, try and find a good one under $3500.
I'm not thrilled with the full-time 4X4 either. I do want 4 wheel drive, but I want to play around in 2 wheel drive most of time. That's why I like the Scrammy so much. Thanks for the input guys. What're your thoughts on the 400ex?

I have a 02 400ex, Its great for wheelies and beating polaris guys. But for trails it's ok but it has no reverse, can suck at times, also doesnt have very high ground clearance, no 4x4 like you want. But lots of speed and acc. Clutch 5 speed, polaris is nice on trail because you can sit back and relax. 400ex you have to shift and work the bike to get threw lots of mud. It's really all in what you want.
Hope this helps.

One of the Big Ute quads would be good too(Grizzly, Prairie, etc)...but....they are big moola. They are fast, big and burly....with plenty of features.
