I need to ask a few questions about the 250es.

1- On the 85, the front hub and brake drum are a two piece attatchment There are 2 countersunk screws and if you undo them it will lift right off. On the 87 it doesnt have those 2 screws and it doesnt look like the drum will seperate from the hub. Is this a 1 piece unit or does the drum come off another way?

2- I want to use the 2 peice drum/hub but the axel is stuck in the hub. Would it be able to be pressed out?

3- How would i get the bearings and races out of the front hub?

Thanks in advance,

Matt

hi matt.
i read your post soon after you wrote it this morning ( my morning anyway )
+ re-read it sevral times ,,,, tripple checked my clymers manual and still can't for the life of me figure out what 2 counter sunk screwa you are talking about. my 85 bigred don't have them in the front hub/brake assembly.
mine will just come apart once wheel is off ,,, just as described in manual for all 250es/sx modles. no 87 up dates indicate anything weird either so i'd hafta say it's not a one peice hub cause at some point it would be needing to be taken apart for a brake job. sounds like a press ( homemade or other wise is what it's gonna take to get that axle out of there.

the bearings are pressed in but you can get them out with a long punch or drift. take out the oil seals first with a screw drive ( pry them out )
then by working with a hammer and a long punch you will basically be tapping out the bearing and spacer from the opposite side.

John,

You must have mis-interpreted what i meant. Its not the actual brake panel that i am talking about, not the bit that has the brake shoes on the inside of it. Once the axel is out and the brake panel is off there is just the drum and the hub left. I mean taking the drum off the hub. The drum is the bit that the shoes expand on and push against. On one of my bikes the drum will come off but the other wont come off. Kinda strange.

Thanks alot,

Matt
