View Full Version : 84 tecate rear shock
What is the stock length on an 84 kawasakit kxt 250 rear shock. I just purchased one that was supposedly off of and 84 kxt 250 and it seems about 3/4 " - 1" too long. It measures 17" from one end to the other. do i need to compress it that much to get it in there. Or is it the wrong shock. It also has cooling fins on the resivior bottle.

was this the one on ebay? that one was a kx250 shock(83/84)
if you want a good 85 shock, I have one I can rebuild and sell you for $125
If you look it up on ebay it should be und KXT 250 under completed items. It says its for an 85 kawasaki kxt 250 ATC. The guys name is tecatenutt. He has an 85 and i talked to him before i bought it.

that was the kx one i was speaking of
There's a little bit of difference between the 84 & 85 KXT rear shock and linkage system. And If I remember right, in the race set-up guide it says you cant swap the 84 & 85 shocks. Travel was up'd in 85.
The 85 shock might be a little longer which would be your problem. The OEM reservoirs never had fins on them and like Nick said, the old KX's did. I didn't see the pictures, but perhaps if not KX, then an aftermarket shock?
Here's another difference. The 84 shock reservoir has no adjustment knob. they added that in 85.
OK, will an 85 tecate shock bolt right in to an 84??? What do i have to do to get it in there? different linkage?

you should read the other post that you did, i answered this question. YES, they interchange(this means that you can bolt either year shock into you 84) and wuould work fine, however the shocks are different
