i have the chance to buy a 85 200X, it seen better days, plastc is pretty beat, tires hold air but thats about it, motor is blown and missing parts, the guy will sell it for $50 and i have a shop that has a bunch of 200 motors(most complete but need to be rebuilt) for sale for in and around $50-$75(which i could rebuild for anouther $100) so i was wondering if one of these motors will fit without any truble??
thanks for any help.

Yep they'll bolt right in, but you do have to do a few mods to make everything work right. I think you have to modify the wiring harness and you have to find a way to make the 200s/m/e rear brake pedal work with the 200x frame and master cylinder.

I'm running a 185 motor in mine at the moment. With a 200X carb, cam and aftermarket headpipe :-D

Actually, I looked at mine and compared it to my 185 and it doesn't look like any wiring mods are needed, don't know about your other 200 motors though.

200xer, how did you make your rear brakes work? I'm starting to seriously think about this again using my extra 185 motor. Do you have any pics of your pedal set-up? Thanks.

The electric starter on the M and E models will hit the X frame

I'm just curious, how well does it go with a 185 motor versus the 200x??

me and my neighbor made a 200x with a 185 motor, and it was pretty fast, wasnt much slower than a 200 motor

How did you set up the rear brakes? Or did you even bother with them?

The brakes are faily easy to modify. I use a 185-200 rear brake lever and drill out the pivot hole to 3/4" and shorten the peddle some ( cut and reweld ). Then make a short linkage to the pivot bracket and your good to go. The drilling and shortening takes about 1 hr after you have done a few.
