Well i went riding the other day for 8 hours straight, as the day went on Neutral was harder and harder to get it in to, if it was running, i could shut it off and it would click right in, i was doubling all day but dont think that should make much difference, what is my cause of neutral being a trailprotrailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro to find.

ps it goes into when ever i dont really need it like when i park it, but if i am riding and need to get off for like 30 sec it never wants to go into it, this is on my 86 350x with suprap exhaust, thanks for any help

Your problem is caused by clutch drag. When you pull the clutch lever to release the clutch, there is still friction, and its not releasing all the way. This can be caused by grooves in clutch basket, poor oil, lack of oil, or too heavy of an oil. If oil is too heavy, problem wont be as bad when motor is hot. If it gets worse when its hot, its one of the other 3. Contrary to popular opinion, crappy oil does not cause clutch slippage. It causes a clutch to not slip when its supposed to, as in, when you pull the lever.
One band aid is to slip it into neutral while its still rolling, and before it comes to stop.

Make sure your clutch/cable is adjusted correctly.

Didn't you see that he said he was going to adjust it in the post just above yours?

I doubt the oil change will help it - most likely with it being a 350CC thumper your looking at clutch basket grooves as Tim has posted.

Well got some good news, the oil was very black, lost track of how many hours I put on that machine, and she had lots with that oil, now with the new oil and filter, neutral seems to be 80 % easier to find, in the last 2 hours i only had troubles once, and i didn;t adjust the cable i will do that some other time, what do i all need to replace if i do have to put a clutch in it, i have never had to on any machines thanks.

ps funny how this starter after i let some girls drive it
