I just bought a cobra header for my X and having trouble with the studs in the head. Its got the factory pipe on it so their in good i managed to get one out but twisted the end off another and dont want to twist the others off. ive sprayed WD/40 on them for three days straight before i started. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If you have a torch use that to heat the nuts, don't get it too close to the head cause that is aluminum and would melt fast. If you don't have a torch maybe it would help to get the engine up to operating temp and trying loosening them?

I tried running it for awhile but no luck loosening them. Thanks for the idea on the torch. I was told by a shop that if they break off in the head that i would have to take the head off and have a machine shop drill them out from the inside. Is this true if so why couldnt you just drill a hole in the stud and use an easy out? Your right exhaust studs suck especially 19 year old ones!

my stock header pipe was leaking a year ago,i lubed..not much happened, heat was the best,i got 3 of them out, the 1 that broke, i drilled with a 1/8 drill bit, then stepped up a few sizes.i got it drilled to about 13/64 then tried an easy out, that was a damn joke!.so i redrilled the 13/64,reamed it out a little then tapped the hole with a 1/4 tap and put a stud in it.i think i put a dab of high temp loctight on too.studs come in many lenghts, you really dont need to drill the entire lenght of the broken stud, mines in the hole maybe 5/8 ".ive never heard people say thier exhaust stud fell out! i do this kinda stuff alot at work and all..the key is CENTER the bit,DRILL STRAIGHT and use quality sharp bits[we use cobalt split points]thier worth the money[unless you break it,then you get pissed, unless its at work, the company buys them]it took me like 45 mins to do the hole thing,..oh yea, what ever you do DO NOT! break an easy out or drill bit in the hole,i only did this when i hurried the job, keep us posted
