My 1986 Honda 250SX and I were out in the woods today and the rear tires locked up on me. The engine was still running fine but it wouldnt go. The only way it would move was if I gave it a lot of throttle it would go, but something is binding or something. Any suggestions on what it may be would be great. I dont want to tear into it right away until I get some ideas what to look for. Thanks, Kyle

maybe your differential blew out... ran out of fluid??? if thats what happened that sucks.. i could sell you one maybe. and it could be your brakes though unlikely it could be stuck.

Sounds to me like your brakes have locked up. Ifthe diff ran out of oil it would still be able to turn im sure....

Yes, if it ran out of fluid it would still turn. Even if it was bone dry in there, it would still turn. Like Matt said, sounds like the brakes locked up. One way to find up: put the rear end up on blocks, completely loosen(or take off) the brakes, and see if it turns easy. If it does, take it off the blocks and go for a little test ride and see how it works. Later

The 1st thing I checked was the diff, I pulled the fill plug and the fluid was full and looked to be ok, no chunks and the oil didnt look silver. I then pulled the boot off of the drive shaft too see what I could, everything from what I could see looked to be ok. It didnt really sound like it was my brakes, it sounded kinda " clunky " thats why I thought it was the diff or driveshaft. But I am going to check the brakes anyway cause thats not a very hard thing to do. Thanks for the ideas! Kyle.

I would pull the brake drum cover of to be sure. Sometimes the brake pads actually come off the shoe and jam up against the drum. My best guess would be the brakes are locked up somehow.
Good Luck and keep us posted
P.S
How did you get it homw with the rear end locked up?

The tires didnt lock up completely, i just had to hammer on the throttle for it to move, so i limped her back to the barn that way. I had it out today and she seemed to be rolling fine. Im thinking it was the brakes now. Kinda weird. But i still need to take it appart and check.

You shouldent have rode it back mate. Your brakes will be worn out now or if they came of the pivot point your brake drum and or linings will be scratched up. Hope they arent though.

I really had no other choice. I was the only one out there and I was about 2miles from the barn.

rear brake is locking up. Try throwing it in reverse and then forward again and it usually lets go. Just adjust them. It's happened to me too.
