tri-z problem

On my 85 z there is a gas line or something that goes into the cylinder on the right side and a little metal elbow. What is that elbow?? mine is loose and leaking gas. How do i fix this problem??

That is the vacume line for the fuel pump. If its got fuel leaking out I'd say the fuel pump needs chunked or rebuilt.

How does that little elbow thingy that goes into the cylinder cause the pump to need rebuilding?? That little elbow is loose in the side of the cylinder and is leaking. Is their anyway to tighten it or is it just worn out? What is the name of this part so i can get a new one. Thanks

Its not suppose to have fuel in it, at all, ever. That elbow creates a pressure from the cylinder that operates the fuel pump. If there is fuel leaking out of the elbow, either a line is crossed or the fuel pump is fubar and needs repaired/replaced. I've never had one come loose...but I think its probably just pressed into the cylinder. If thats the case then something must have hit it to knock it loose. Atleast thats what seems logical to me.

Tap it into the cylinder with a hammer. (Lightly, dont whack it!) I just pulled one out of one cylinder and put it into another.

Do NOT reconnect the hose to it!

If it does, it means your fuel pump diaphram leaks, and is probably cracked, and its dumping gas right into the bottom of your crank. You will need to take apart the fuel pump, and replace any cracked or leaking components.

Well there is gas in the vacum line so now how do i fix or rebuild the fuel pump? Do they make kits? where can i get one?

no,it wont the pump on the z is round ,those gaskets are square,i used scott google tear off lens cut to the size of the two outer gaskets in the pump and after one year is still pumps fine with NO LEAKS!!! :Bounce

Be sure to change your oil when your done with the rebuild.If it sucked gas into the lower end you will wash all the oil down and ruin the motor.
